I got banned for saying people should engage in mass protest against the arrest of judges and prevent anyone from entering and leaving the building in which they are held until they are released.
I’ll create a new Reddit account when I can be bothered to create a new email address.
What were you banned for?
I got banned after 15 years for asking why we can’t organize to cyberbully Trump’s current head of social media: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steven_Cheung_(political_advisor)?wprov=sfla1
This was in response to the White House calling Garcia a terrorist on their Twitter account.
My reddit account got a strike by an admin for describing the risks involved in traveling to the USA currently (abduction, torture for an undetermined amount of time). The appeal I made to that was accepted but it left a sour taste in my mouth.
That’s pretty lenient, most people get permabans
Lemmy. The support group for burned reddit veterans.
We were there. We put in thousands of hours of work. Years of moderating. Free work. Content creators. People who commented. Voted. All that karma …
All gone cause you upvoted an anti trump or musk post. Or maybe you upvoted a photo of a tessler burning.
Maybe you didn’t think Luigi should get the death penalty.
Don’t worry brother. Upvote what you want. Be free with the rest of us.
Check out https://lemmy.world/c/iselonmuskdeadyet
I wonder if the reason is because 50501 started on Reddit and they are determined to not let it happen again.
They bent the knee. Hard.
Many many years and ass loads of karma…
But apparently LIKING posts can get you banned now. What a shit show.
Clearly they’re butthurt that you didn’t fellate Trump or Musk or some other such drain clog.
Reddit constantly pushing conservative to the front page was a sign
This is why I tell people to dump pitchers of water on Reddit employees if you meet one at a bar in Frisco. Also rub shit on the HQ front doors handle. Make them extra pissed off.
My Reddit account was permanently banned for saying I hope Nazi scum Elon Musk dies soon. Had previously caught temporary bans for saying things like “We should overthrow Musk into the sea.” in response to him having argued King Charles should overthrow the UK government. Reddit admins really don’t seem to like it when you’re righteously intolerant of evil scumfuck psychopaths who use their unearned power and influence to cause immeasurable harm to society, the world and its inhabitants. Things like that break Rule 1, threatening violence, they claim.
Although the permanent ban was only for a couple of days since I for once was successful in my appeal. I basically said death =/= violence. An obvious truth to anyone, except some Reddit admins apparently.
I’ve not really used Reddit since. Kind of lost my will to bother with a US based site that’s clearly and predictably going in a US direction, i.e. spiraling down the fascist sewage. Instead I’ve been drifting over to here. Will see what the moderation over here is like.
It’s tenous at best, probably would’ve been banned again anyways, since you account doesn’t really clear in subreddit filtwrs
Feel that pain this year would have been my 10th year on Reddit. I was permanently banned last June for saying I hope the libs of TikTok monster would get hit by a bus. It’s still blows I can’t post or comment on anything. I was part of a close nit group on Reddit involving a car subreddit and now it sucks to see people commenting on where I am and what happened.
Make a new account and tell them.
They track Machine ID and IP. They just auto ban any new accounts.
Try using VPN and different browser or delete local reddit data. Not sure if reddit allows VPNs anymore for account creation though.
Yea I’ve tried everything but no luck. New account, vpn, switched data, no go.
I was permabanned without explanation and reinstated two weeks later, again without comment.
I believe this tracks with what to expect should we ever see the tech-bro billionaires divide the world into monarchy fiefdoms ocer which rhey are each the unchallenged lord and master.
A shadowban was triggered by a simple comment removal and a completely new browsers, reddit wants all your browser info, they dislike if your using a browser fork too, besides only chrome or main ff
Oh, you can get banned here. It’s not like this is like a place of free speech. It’s just that the internet is kind of created little pockets of echo chambers. It is what it is. And like it was always going to be like that anyways. I just like it that it’s not monetized by corporations that are bombing the shit out of children.
The idea behind lemmy (and every other decentralized platform) is not that you can’t get banned. The idea is that f the mods of one instance decde to go crazy, are bought by malicious people, or if there is an hostile takover (like what happened to freenode), then the network isn’t compromized, and ideally there are plenty of other instances with a moderation policy you agree with and where you can recreate an account
Only by the admin of your home instance, which is unlikely and normally comes after something very extreme (and can be mitigated by running your own instance, where you are in sole power over your account, so it cannot be banned globally)
But normally, you’ll get banned by the community/certain other instance in very gruesome cases, but not your account.
you can get banned here
It takes special effort here, though.
And like it was always going to be like that anyways.
It’s not inevitable: some places are very laissez-faire.
Not that difficult. A year ago I was banned from lemmy.world for refusing to get into an argument with a mod.
I tried to like Reddit but every time I tried posting something I thought was original or thoughtful it would get auto deleted by a bot for not including the right “flair” or some other stupid shit.
Posting in r/showerthoughts was impossible.
Questions about dark matter removed from r/space
Lots more like that.
Showerthoughts was one I tried. I don’t remember specifics but I tried a couple times to post actual thoughts I had in the shower and they got insta-banned by a bot so I just gave up.
Showerthoughts is a large sub so it’s regulated.
I came from TikTok to Reddit about 2 years ago and after some initial adjustments I found the experience quite liberating in comparison. But yeah there are a lot of rules that you only find out about by getting deleted or downvoted. Lemmy is quite literally the essence of what makes Reddit interesting without the weird bs so this is an overdue transition anyway (although I miss optional user flairs ngl).
Lemmy is just small enough at this point where mods don’t have to rely on automated tools and things like required flairs to effectively manage their community. As it develops, things like required flairs, verified submissions, etc will become more normal.
For example, I’m watching Wheel of Time, and /r/WoT requires you to flair every submission with a spoiler level (books only, show and book, show only, etc). Lemmy can’t really sustain good discussion on that yet, but when it does mods will need to start aggressively removing submissions if they’re not properly categorized.
Because you didn’t read and respect the rules
Oh I did and even contacted moderators a few times to try to have posts reinstated after they were insta-banned by a bot. I just got tired of fighting with it every time I wanted to participate.
Oh yea that happens
Don’t miss Reddit. I got my 10 year account permanently banned for making a complaint about a mod who temp banned me for no perceivable reason.
Eat a sack of damp turds Reddit.
Oh this is me. Got banned from Reddit and am on lemmy fulltime.
Lmao yeah I guess there’s a lot of us here.
I doubt that very much.
Similar happened to me. You cannot say there is genocide going in Palestine. If u say that are temp banned for a day, then 3 day then permanently banned.
Israel has bots in reddit to gatekeep the narrative i believe they have taken over worldnews
There will still be an amount of censorship on lemmy, it might just be on the opposite opinion of yours, so you won’t notice it. I’m pretty sure we’re slowly turning into an echo chamber as well
Absolutely! Especially communities like lemmy.ml. I just got banned for criticizing certain aspects of Communism. No alternate opinions are allowed apparently…
The extreme political instances year, like hexbear , mil, grad are as bad as conservatives. Makes you wonder that they were justly banned from reddit as surely as they would if they step out of their instances
that’s why if you disagree with censorship/moderation policy of an instance, you can move to another one. You can’t do that on reddit.
Yea but those tend to be defederated quickly and not last for long, and each time you switch, you lose all the content you’ve posted and saved :(
Just for posterity in case this follows us here, there is a genocide going on in Palestine. Feels like a mantra at this point.
Lately I’m seeing a lot of this on old accounts
I had a few alt accounts from a decade ago that I’d sometimes used to get something from that site but over the past year the all got banned for no reason because I literally didn’t even post with them.
Im guessing that Reddit wants to get rid of those older users that still remember how great it was
They wantll Nu-reddit user, aka the ones that are ignorant of reddits history
