Is this the ad with the Reagan verbatim quote?

Watched it in the world series tonight. Laughed my ass off with others around being mostly quiet. Lmaooo they literally quoted Reagan, with original audio of Reagan himself (and a brief video clip at the end) giving a formal speech about how bad tariffs are.

Especially about economics since “Voodoo economics” was other republicans describing reagan’s tax plan.

Even Trump has managed to say a couple things that aren’t completely moronic once every few years. Reagan and Trump being minimally sensible on an odd occasion doesn’t change the fact that their net legacy will be massive damage, deduction and death.

      100%

They’ve been projecting about how liberals are the emotional ones for decades. Mostly projection, but also because they confuse empathy with emotionalism.

Literally everything they say is projection. Pedophilia, over emotionalism, over dependence on wealthy donors… Nothing negative they say is about the other party it’s always about themselves.

Same with their religion. I’m not religious, but their actions are blatantly anti-Christian while they cover their trucks with Jesus stickers, etc.

FYI. Chamberlain’s appeasement was actually quite calculated. Britain couldn’t stand up to Germany, and knew it. Appeasement brought time. It let Britain build fighters and tanks. To set up its radar defence net. To prepare for a major war.

When it failed, as Chamberlain knew it would, he fell on his political sword. This cleared the way, and let Churchill take charge, with a clean slate, and a functional military.

I’m hoping that current politicians are half as competent as Chamberlain was with his appeasement.

Outside of the USA there still seems to be some competent politicians. Whether there are enough, in the right places is a different story.

We can at least hope for the best. There’s not much else we can do.

So, he’s back to breaking the law again? He can’t impose tariffs on Canadian goods that are protected under the USMCA.

Canada was doing it up until August 2025 Timeline of 2025 trade actions March 2025: The U.S. began imposing tariffs on Canadian imports.

**March 2025: ** Canada retaliated by imposing 25% tariffs on billions of dollars worth of U.S. products, including food and household goods. This action deliberately targeted goods that should have been tariff-free under the CUSMA framework.

April 2025: Canada also applied tariffs on non-CUSMA compliant vehicles and certain content within CUSMA-compliant vehicles imported from the U.S.

August 2025: Canada announced it would lift its retaliatory tariffs on most USMCA-compliant goods, beginning in September.

September 2025: As of September 1, 2025, Canada’s tariffs were removed on most U.S. imports. However, counter-tariffs on steel, aluminum, and automobiles remain in place, mirroring the tariffs still maintained by the U.S. on those sectors.

      The US Has

Timeline of 2025 US tariffs on Canada March 4: The U.S. implemented new tariffs of 25% on most goods from Canada, with a 10% tariff on Canadian energy and potash.

March 12: The U.S. separately imposed 25% tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum, based on Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act. Canadian imports could potentially face cumulative tariffs under the different justifications.

**April 3: **The U.S. placed a 25% tariff on Canadian automobiles.

June 4: The tariffs on steel and aluminum from Canada were increased to 50%.

October 25: A 10% tariff increase was announced for Canadian goods in response to Ontario ads critical of Trump’s tariffs.

This came up a few months ago when people were saying “But wait, congress has power to set tariff policy”. That was true until the Smoot-Hawley act that is often blamed (probably correctly) for triggering or at least greatly exacerbating the Great Depression. After that, congress ceded tariff control to the executive. AFAIK, there’s nothing stopping congress from taking it back, but I can’t see the current congress doing that.
