Was watching TV with the dog next to me on the couch. A song I like came on and I sang along and my dog stared at me in amazement. Since then, she doesn’t care when I sing. I think it was just a one time surprise.

Being adult is highly overrated. Look at all the “serious” people ruining the world with their greed and selfishness. Never let the inner child die. Children inherently understand morals that adults corrupt with religion and over-thinking.

The last guy we want promoting good things. He will curse them with his waxy Elder Things notions.

Nobody wants Clippy OS, Microsoft. Good part is, they are edging more people to Linux.
There are so many users on both that exclusively (or nearly exclusively) contribute “gotcha” replies only. Never an original thought or comment. They only want to “call out” others. Sniper-camper mentality. You can easily see it in their histories. I block them aggressively.

“Men don’t communicate.” There are multiple modes of communication. If you know, you know.

Dumb. One of the few things LLMs are good at is correcting spelling. That’s a lot of effort for an ineffective “poison”.
Local Discords are hit or miss, but at least where I live (mid sized city) there are several for various hobbies and activities. There’s also one for the city itself that’s active. People on the city channel mostly bitch about local news/politics, but will try to help folks looking for social groups.
Nextdoor has a shitty reputation (for good reason) but sometimes you can find a few sane / helpful people on there, too. They might be able to at least suggest some local groups and events in meatspace.

Hot and Sour soup always makes me feel better.

Can only speak for myself. I use AI tools almost daily to help me pursue my hobby. I find it very useful for that. But when I enjoy art produced by a human, on some level I want to connect with the human experience that produced it. Call it parasocial if that helps. But I’m always at least a little interested in the content creators, not just the content.
I know some people consume content like a commodity or product. I’m not judging those people at all. But I’m generally not like that myself. I want to know the story behind the creation.

Go for it. I was very reluctant to try DIY haircuts. But once I did…I immediately wondered why I paid for it with time, money, and hassles for all those years.
Yup. Have had a few coworkers exactly like that. Have tried to deal with them in various ways, but it’s always tricky. Especially if they are the “popular person” in the office.
Another variant is the jackass who walks in and sees others working on something, acts angry that they are “doing it all wrong” then huffs out without actually pitching in. Had a coworker who consistently did this BS to try to cover his own inadequacies and tardiness. Was so happy when the boss fired that fucker.
The Great Book of Amber has been giving me side eye for at least 15 years. I know it’s more than one book, but it’s definitely my mental ball and chain.

Correlation is not causation. People who take melatonin could have trouble sleeping because of sleep apnea and myriad other (possibly undiagnosed) sleep issues which can also cause heart problems over time.
It’s not clear from this snippet if they controlled for that sort of thing: “A secondary analysis found that those who took melatonin for over a year were almost 3.5 times as likely to be hospitalized for heart failure when compared to those not taking melatonin.”
I don’t take melatonin. And I’m not saying it’s definitely not the melatonin causing the increased risk. Always read articles about medical studies with a large dose of skepticism.

Oh cool, another full of shit internet tough guy.

Individual level:
Societal level: I have no idea, but I imagine media (movies, tv shows, the news, Tik Tok, etc) all have some influence there. Mostly in bad ways, unfortunately.

Destruction of property is a gray area. Obviously it can go too far, like setting a house on fire or destroying the east wing of the white house. But I was fine with them getting rid of the stupid Confederate statues. There are some options there.
Assassinations can be a bit murky, too. I’m fine with Luigi being a folk hero for people. Assassinations are extremely risky and of questionable effectiveness…but that one felt like borderline self defense. That sort of thing can escalate quickly but 47 is escalating either way.

We need to exhaust nonviolent resistance first, we’re not even close to doing that. And what we’ve done so far (No Kings, recent blue wave, other protests, boycotts) is kind of starting to work.
Everyone on the internet acts like some kind of freedom fighter badass but anyone with common sense knows 1. most of those people are full of shit and roleplaying online and 2. a violent overthrow ends up with people in charge who are willing to use violence to get what they want. Historically that sort of thing has not gone well.
Nonviolence works, it takes persistence and patience, and is always preferable to another civil war.
Very little on here or reddit is worth preserving IMO. Sure, there are some gems in the mountains of shit. But those are mostly the “technical answers to technical questions” variety.
