I appreciate the joke, but there’s no swiping in Grindr, you just get to be a perv to whoever you like. It’s great.

Better to say “if he wouldn’t tap you” or “😈 you”.

The recruiting crisis in the US military is pretty bad.

The funniest example is 24M$ the national guard spent in 2012 on recruiting at nascar. This generated 24,800 prospective recruits. ~$1000 per interested recruit. Not bad. Of those, 20 were eligible to join. 99.92% unfit for service. Of those 20, all declined to join. There’s no evidence that the 88M$ spent on nascar between 2011-2013 generated a single recruit.

This is part of why the exclusion of trans folks, women and others from the military is such an own goal for the fascists. Any potential recruiting pool that’s closed hastens the decline of our imperial supremacy.

Also if there was a draft they’d have to put me in jail or I’d leg it to canada. This has come up in conversation before and people are like “Erm nuh uh you’d totally go” like no bro you’ll actually die to an IED in something-istan.

We need to remember the fact that those currently in power don’t want things to work or be fixed. They’re actively breaking everything that they can get their hands on, for their foreign dictator handlers.

I’m reminded of the bit from ur-fascism about how they are incapable of evaluating the world.

They are stupid people living in an emotional fantasy.

You mean civilian leadership vs military leadership?

FDR won WWII from a wheelchair, your comment makes no sense.

Sorry, what’s the purported correlation between FDR’s paralysis and Trump’s general unhealthiness?

Well, they obviously do need to be fit for the job, hence Trump’s mental decline being even more concerning than his original mental state. Given the lack of fit Americans interested in enlistment you might also think a bit of leading by example couldn’t hurt. And of course, I’d hate to be a National Guard member in an administrative role sent home for optics when I didn’t need to be physically fit to perform my job.

              “Do need to be fit”

So FDR was fit in his wheelchair when he won WWII?

Seriously, military leadership and civilian are wildly different.

              “Optics”

It’s standards and discipline, not optics. Can’t meet the standard, tough shit.

Are you trying to have a “gotcha” moment here? You’re arguing with yourself. You’ve already stated the commander in chief doesn’t need to be physically fit to serve, and I’ve not disagreed, and already stated that their mental state is of much more concern to me.

I don’t think we’re going to have a meaningful conversation on something quite as nuanced as leading by example, so let’s just call that one a mulligan.

Anyone in the National Guard has already met the organization’s standards, and moves by the presidential administration to change those standards as a direct response to bad optics are obviously done to improve the optics

                  “Gotcha”

Nope, just wanted to make sure we agree that the folks talking about Trump needing to be in good physical shape as CiC are silly.

                  “Mental”

Sure but that’s not a military standard. Theres no mental PT test.

                  “Leading by example”

That’s in the military, like how Milley should have. Civilian leadership physical fitness doesn’t matter.

                  “NG”

And if they fall out of those standards, or can’t meet the current standards, can be kicked out.

We all know this, it’s not new and it’s entirely appropriate. If anything, this is long overdue.

You didn’t listen to Hegseth’s speech to the generals? He said, everyone in the chain of command from the bottom to the top, needs to be in prime physical condition.

If you’re working maintenance, then you absolutely want a 300 pound guy on the other of a lever while you’re working on a suspension.
