Your argument is irrelevant. You called for death in two separate comments. It’s right there in black and white. You can’t deny it, it’s preserved in the modlog.
1 day left on the temp ban. Be better when you come back.

Yeah, not a maniac and attacking mods is a rule 6 violation.
We don’t need all the news from a single perspective. Multiple users need to be able to contribute too.
If the community is a wall of posts from the same user, others may feel like they can’t contribute.
Federal torts and also “qualified immunity”.
Again, dishonest question. Where does the lemmy community enter into it? It doesn’t? Oh well then there’s nothing here for me to reply to. Try again.
Funny how other mods disagree and keep inviting me to moderate their groups. I actually turned down being a mod for News pretty recently, but they insisted they wanted me. I did not want the appearance of a “Power Mod”. Fortunately the communities I care most about are tiny.
When I first joined lemmy, I was invited to mod Politics and World. I didn’t even have a lemmy.world account at the time, I was like “Are you sure? Seems weird to moderate lemmy.world with a lemmy.one account”.
But I’ll make you a deal… Go through the modlog and find a moderation of mine you disagree with. Make your case. If you can argue it successfully, I’ll reverse it.
Oh, there’s no doubt it’s a radical position. I’ve had to explain to another mod why the classic dishonest question “When did you stop beating your wife?” is a rhetorical device and not actually endorsing spousal abuse. (I got that comment restored once people actually understood what was being said.)
But in the cases of the comments that started this whole blow up, there is absolutely no ambiguity. If your comment contains any variation on “DEATH TO…” yeah, that’s going to get removed.
You ever see the movie “The Fisher King” with Robin Williams? GREAT flick. Jeff Bridges plays this radio DJ who goes off on a rant about Yuppies. (Ye olden term for “Young Urban Professionals”. We’d call them “Tech Bros” now. Yeah, it’s super old.) Saying “They must be stopped! It’s us or them!”
Well, someone listening took a shotgun down to a yuppie bar and killed 7 people.
The movie isn’t as dour as that makes it out to be, it’s actually quite touching and funny. Peak Terry Gilliam.
But the point is, if a comment, even an offhand one, could inspire violence, it’s got to go. Hopefully someone catches it.
I’ve already answered it multiple times, if you can’t accept it, then that’s a problem between your ears.
If you advocate for violence, and mods see your comment, it will be removed. Really that’s the end of it. Do NOT say on lemmy that anyone deserves to be killed or harmed. Do not celebrate on lemmy anyone being killed or harmed.
If it pops up in a report, it gets removed. If mods see it organically, it gets removed. If you keep doing it, you get temp banned. If that ban expires and you keep doing it, you get permabanned.
Each step of the way you get a warning. Not acceptable. You then have a choice. Learn from your mistake and get better, fuck off and don’t come back, do it again and get banned, or come to PTB and be a whiny little bitch about it. Sometimes a combination of any or all of the above.
Facts are encouraged, attacking me for being pro-genocide is not factual.
Read again:
Countries that get attacked are allowed to defend themselves. That has nothing to do with perpetuating a genocide, which Israel is doing in Gaza.
It DOES have to do with being attacked by Iran.
One is a legitimate defense, one is an illegal war of aggression. I really don’t think you can tell the difference.
I get the rainbow of drugs, that was me last week!
I really don’t know how to make it simpler than I’ve already stated.
There are degrees of moderation. For example… two users engaging in an internet slap fight. If you’re going to make me be the dad in the room, I’m going to remove all your comments and ban both of you for 24 hours to cool off. I like to think of that as the “I don’t care who started it, I’m finishing it” rule.
Some users are chill about it, some get butthurt over it, some repeat offend which makes the next ban longer, and longer until it’s clear they’re just trolling and get a permaban.
The user who started this whole thread directly called for violence, got removed and warned, did it again which earned a 3 day ban, that expires tomorrow so we’ll see how it goes. Based on their attitude here I’m not exactly optimistic. They know the rules, if they come back with the same crap they will be permabanned and I will not feel bad about it.
The user who defended them was warned, proceeded to attack me as a mod which also earned a 3 day ban. They would have been temp banned for attacking any user, mods are not an exception to that. Again, we’ll see how it goes. They don’t seem exactly contrite, so again, not optimistic.
A lot of users take the bans in stride. I’ve had multiple PMs from people along the lines of “Sorry, I was drunk, it won’t happen again.”
Where they don’t want to be is on the moderation radar. When we get reports, we see who is being reported and who is doing the reporting. Usually the same names pop up over and over again.
Some names I look at and I’m like “They always make a solid report, let’s see what it is this time…”
Other names it’s “Oh, god, this asshole… AGAIN…”
Most of the time it’s names I don’t recognize at all.
Lemmy communites have no power over the real world. We DO have power over what is or is not allowed in our communities.
We choose to say advocating violence is not acceptable here. Attacking other users is not acceptable here. Attacking the mods is definitely not acceptable here.
Don’t like it? Tough shit. Nobody is asking you to like it. Grow up. Communities have rules, if you don’t want to abide by them go fling your poo somewhere else, we do not have to tolerate it.
Let me try with a logic gate puzzle:
When any country gets attacked, they have a right to respond. We can agree on that, yes?
Israel is a country.
Israel got attacked by Iran.
Both indisputable facts.
So the response is, Israel has the right to defend itself.
Unless you want to argue:
or:
or:
Then your argument doesn’t make sense. You’re trying to twist it into being about the Genocide in Gaza, that’s not what I’m talking about.
I’m talking about Israel’s legitimate response to having rockets fired at them from Iran and Iran’s legitimate response to being bombed by Israel.
When a country gets attacked, they have the right to respond. You could even take it a step further and say they have an obligation to respond. If your country gets attacked repeatedly and you never respond, do you even HAVE a country at that point?
They can do that all they want, off lemmy. If they advocate for it in a lemmy community, it will be removed. Same as if the IDF came in and said “kill 'em all”. Not allowed in the lemmy community.
Please learn to differentiate real world rules from lemmy community rules. There is a difference.
Well, I was going to say “someday they’ll discover masturbation” but they’re clearly already engaging in that. 😉
Removing comments and banning users isn’t violence, it’s good housekeeping. It’s also a requirement of modding a lemmy community.
In before “YoU CaN’T SuE ThE GoVeRnMeNt” /s
Again… Lemmy is not the real world. What happens in the real world has no bearing on what is or is not allowed in a lemmy community.
What we are talking about are stupid fucking users who want to get away with comments advocating death and destruction and then acting like they were personally injured when they were told their comments break the rules and were removed.
The rule in [email protected] and other communities is dead simple: Do not advocate violence.
If you do it, and get your comment removed, go fuck yourself. You deserved it. If you keep doing it, and get temp banned, again, go fuck yourself, you deserved it. If you come back from the temp ban and keep doing it, what in the everlasting fuck do you expect is going to happen?
This is about correcting bad user behavior. Some learn from it, go and sin no more, and become valued members of the community. Others do not and get bounced and nothing of value was lost.
Yeah, the Afghani government, or I should say “government” folded up so fast it’s hard to remember the timeline. It may be we made the promise to the non-Taliban government which had the half-life of francium. (Yes, I looked that up.)
