If NYC can’t produce a better mayoral candidate than Eric Adams or Andrew Cuomo, then maybe it’s time to give up and let nature have Manhattan back.

Same goes for the rest of the U.S on account of having elected Trump twice fwiw, only nature from coast to coast now

Exactly like the rest of the country, the Dems exist on fealty to corporate and megadonors. They are not structured, and therefore, not interested, to run a candidate in the progressive interests of their constituents. Any actual progressives have beaten enormous odds. Think how progressive NY is and they have like 1 firebrand in AOC. Vermont has Bernie and is an independent. Oregon has Wyden. That’s pretty much it in the Senate.

Yeah, it’s also surreal to hear them get accused of being leftist for their moderate progressive views. None of them are advocating for seizing the means of production. Meanwhile, the other party is actively passing laws privatizing public assets and shielding private equity from accountability.

And the centrists will tell you that a true progressive can’t get elected because they will be painted as a socialist, while being painted as a socialist without bothering to argue the point. Maybe if an actual socialist was at the podium, they could make the argument in defense of their values, rather than trying to convince everyone that they aren’t their values.

The plan is 29 pages long. By page 28, it devolves into gibberish: [Andrew Cuomo, PDF, archive]

This is a politically convenient posture, but to be in. Victory if landlords — small landlords in particular — are simply unable to maintain their buildings.

A citation on page 28 includes ChatGPT in the cited web page URL.

Cuomo’s campaign defended ChatGPT as a perfectly good research tool — and not, say, a hallucinating rubbish generator — and said the literal nonsense bits were errors from voice recognition software.

What? That looks exactly like an error from voice recognition software. It looks nothing at all like an LLM hallucination.

I’m just as in favor as anybody of finding someone much better than Cuomo as the competitor to Eric Adams. But this particular reason to criticize him appears totally made up.

yeah wtf, as if that’s an excuse.

“it’s not that I didn’t care enough to come up with my own sentences, it’s that I didn’t care enough to read, or even have an intern read, what the fuck was written after I dictated them.”

        what a save

Most jobs have had metrics of efficiency and productivity set by “AI” for years now. It’s made whole employment fields miserable to work in for nearing a decade.

The upper echelon have absolutely forgotten how to interact and use their brains to come up with solutions that help those they look down on.
Even AOC believes in only cheap immigrant labor for running the economy.

This is lemmy you don’t have to do dumb bullshit like say “sa” you can say “sexual assault” or “rape” and it won’t get censored. Actually saying what he did is important because the more layers of abstraction it’s hidden behind the less weight the accusations have. It’s like how saying that someone unalived someone else is not the same in terms of weight as saying someone murdered someone.

It was an attempt, perhaps imperfect, to show some modicum of respect, for those who have experienced the same.

obscuring the crime minimizes the effects it has. i’ve been sexually assaulted many times, not “sa’d” or “essayed” or “s*xually ass**lted” or whatever attempt people use to censor and mimimize it.

Except those people didn’t experience “sa” they experienced sexual assault and you’re not doing them any favors or showing them respect by hiding their traumatic experience around a stupid little acronym.

I do not feel seen for having the words that describe the situation hidden from others.
It makes it felt still swept under the rug to be easier to talk about from those that would rather not.

I swear ChatGPT reminds me more of the Fact Sphere from Portal 2. Every time someone uses it for official business it completely makes shit up but makes it sound like facts.

Well I don’t know how y’all feel about the work the politics do in your respective parts of the world, but at this point I’m reasonably convinced that I’d trust 2019’s ChatGPT to come with better plans and strategies than most of them.
