Exactly like the rest of the country, the Dems exist on fealty to corporate and megadonors. They are not structured, and therefore, not interested, to run a candidate in the progressive interests of their constituents. Any actual progressives have beaten enormous odds. Think how progressive NY is and they have like 1 firebrand in AOC. Vermont has Bernie and is an independent. Oregon has Wyden. That’s pretty much it in the Senate.

Yeah, it’s also surreal to hear them get accused of being leftist for their moderate progressive views. None of them are advocating for seizing the means of production. Meanwhile, the other party is actively passing laws privatizing public assets and shielding private equity from accountability.

And the centrists will tell you that a true progressive can’t get elected because they will be painted as a socialist, while being painted as a socialist without bothering to argue the point. Maybe if an actual socialist was at the podium, they could make the argument in defense of their values, rather than trying to convince everyone that they aren’t their values.

You’re right, or course, but socialism is a dirty word. I know people who collect social benefits and complain about socialism. It’s kind of hard to argue with that logic, because it’s just not there.
