I eat my food in strict order of what I like most (from least to most). For example if I had a steak with fries and vegetables, I’d eat the vegetables first, then the fries, then the steak.

Unless it’s a pairing. I love tomato mozzarella salad and I go to great lenght to make sure there is a perfect 1:1 ratio of tomato and mozzarella.

Lol, well I do mix it up sometimes so I guess you’re the weird one for strictly doing it always? I guess that makes it different enough

I do a strict order but it’s generally by what I consider the main parts of the dish. So I always eat the main dish before the sides and if there’s multiple sides, I’ll eat the more “important” one first and so on. There’s not much logic to it, my brain just sorts it out automatically

I do this in reverse order.

Meat is always first. Something died for my meal I’m gonna make sure it doesn’t go to waste. Usually a starch next, then veggies.

I go least to best like OP, but like you said about meat - it died to be put on my plate. Always make sure that gets eaten or taken home for another day. Least to best is a good way to get in veggies if they don’t keep as well or you like them less.

If I get a burger and fries, I eat all the fries before starting on the burger. If I can’t finish it all, the burger will be good the next day. Fries are only good fresh.

I do the opposite, I pick up the burger and eat it all without putting it down so that I don’t have to clean my hands multiple times. I then wipe off my hands and try not to eat all the fries because I’m always trying to watch my weight. I often fail at that last part.

We’re not weird, anyone who likes cold or reheated fries is weird.

However, you’re in the same camp as the guy who likes to dip his fries and burger into a chocolate milkshake. Chicken nuggets/tenders, too. I think it’s a sweet n savoury thing.

When I’m eating a meal with different sides I’ll eat a little of everything with each bite. As I get towards the end of my meal I’ll plan out my last 4-5 bites and make little piles of food that contain everything so that I don’t run out of any particular side.

I always do this too. You think I’m going to finish my meal with 2 bites of chicken in a row?! No chance. Gotta be a clean finish with a bite of salad, bite of rice, bite of chicken.

With the best selection of the chicken, salad, and rice saved for that last bite.

When I’m feeling lazy after Thanksgiving it all just goes in a fucking bowl together (pre-chopped, if necessary) and I stir it up. Rolls stay out of course, I goop some Thanksgiving mush onto a chunk of roll 😁

Well here I was thinking I don’t have any odd eating habits but yes the last bite should be the best bite, and this comment reminded me that I do also eat potato chips from the smallest to the largest, eat the little ones while moving/saving the big whole ones for last. Usually with chopsticks.

I do not put milk in my cereal. I have a glass of milk with dry cereal, but I don’t put it in the cereal. I don’t like how the cereal gets soggy and the milk gets a weird flavor. The one exception is chocolate cereal, mostly because it creates chocolate milk.

I like flipping crepes a couple of extra times so that they get a second go around on each side and become slightly crispy. If any French people try to stop me I swear to god I’ll pronounce croissant more Britishly every time you do it

I try to eat the boring parts of food first. This leads to two notably unusual habits:

    • I eat 90% of the pizza crust before the pizza, leaving just a small handle for my fingers.
    • I unwrap and turn muffins upside down, then eat the bottom before the crunchy top. (this is less feasible with cupcakes but I still do it sometimes)

For cupcakes, unwrap, rip off the bottom and place it on top of the icing. Cupcake sandwich. My mom saw me do this once and now she does it every time haha

Not a huge crust fan either so I eat until I have about an inch of pizza then I double it over like a sandwich. I also sometimes save the crusts until they get stale and eat them as dipping sticks with a sauce.

I eat crustaceans and some fish whole where applicable. Shell and all.

I divide rice plates into rows and eat it like a dot matrix printer.

I never use my left hand while eating. It literally stays behind my back while I eat right handed. No idea why although I hear that my late grandfather used to do that too.

Lol I love the dot matrix imagery.

It may be totally unrelated to your family, but depending on your cultural background, only eating with your right hand is pretty common across the Middle East. I believe it’s because the left hand is usually associated with wiping your bum, so it was best to keep that hand away from your food. Some folks can actually get a little offended/weirded out if you eat with your left hand at their table. I love these little cultural anecdotes.

I’ve heard this before and it always makes me think of how terrible I would be at wiping with my left hand. I don’t think I’ve ever done it. My left hand is so much less dextrous than my right, I imagine it would be very messy.

If I’m having pancakes or waffles, I’ll precut the whole thing into bites so I can put my knife down and not have to pick it up again.

The only thing I find unusual here is using a knife. Unless the waffle or pancake is extra tuff for some reason. Otherwise, I will sometimes cut a meat up before starting to eat. I.E. country ham or pork loin.

No, I’m retired now, but used to be a software engineer.

Long story short: The main reason I drink so much water is that I was in a bad accident in 2006 that required a knee replacement, I spent nearly a year on my back and gained a ton of wait in that time. As the years went on gained even more, ballooning up to 470 lbs. In Nov of 2019 I finally decided to do something about it. Water was one of the things I used to help me lose the weight, and I was surprised how well it worked. Now I’m down to 260 lbs with a long way still to go before I reach my goal of 180lbs. I still drink a crap ton of water to help feel full and to curb my apatite.

If I eat chips and queso, when I get to 1-2 spoonfuls left of queso in the bowl, I’ll crush a few handfuls of tortilla chips, throw it in the bowl, mix it all up, and eat it with a spoon.

I will say right now with a passion, whoever invented spaghetti must’ve had a low bar to go by. It’s both a chore and a test of etiquette. Some people twirl it and eat it in forkfulls, others slurp it, others cut it, and typically each of these are considered rude by whoever doesn’t. And then there’s me, because dexterity, I don’t know. My happy place when eating spaghetti is twirling it and then vacuuming it from the fork like the people in the second category. And that is why I haven’t had spaghetti in years.

Spaghetti is so popular as a pasta form factor not because it’s easy to eat, but because it’s easy to make (as in the production of the noodle, to the storage prep, to the cooking).

Spaghetti is the hardest pasta to cook. You have to keep stirring it to ensure it doesn’t clump together, but you can’t stir it too hard or it breaks apart.

Kind of a weird food I like more than a habit, but I love raw potatoes. Peeled, washed, sliced, and lightly salted. I grew up snacking on potatoes prepared like that with my grandma. I don’t eat raw potatoes often. Maybe like once or twice a year when I get a craving lol.
