AI has ruined long format YouTube videos.

Too many times I’ve been 10-15 minutes into a video when I notice that it’s talking in circles, mispronouncing a basic word, majorly contradicting itself or is just obviously spouting bullshit.

It’s to the point where if I see a video has less than 10k views or the channel has less than 25k subs I immediately assume it’s AI slop.

Especially when the channel has a big “NO AI” watermark/icon.

Music has been completely ruining on YT and the AI slop is beginning to show up on Spotify.

I cannot wait for the AI bubble to pop so it becomes prohibitively expensive to churn out garbage.

I don’t think it’ll disappear but once the VC money dries up and these services need to support themselves the availability for slop will dramatically fall.

The day you can’t earn money with youtube videos/music is the day original creations will come back IMO.

People talk about the wild West era of the internet with nostalgia but I think what people actually miss how genuine things used to be.

Monetization is a big part of it but I think there’s been a culture push to call anyone being authentic “cringe.”

Was looking for classic Halloween music mixes on YouTube Music the other day while carving pumpkins with my daughter. A few well known songs came up and then all of a sudden songs that were not Halloween songs started playing in the list (some were regular well ( own pop songs). I let it go on for a few minutes and started seeing a theme that the non-halloween song had a often repeated word that was associated with Halloween… Demon, spirit, spooky… So AI generated playlists based on keywords?

Then came along AI generated “Halloween classic” songs that sounded as if they were from the 1950’s. They were ok, but annoying knowing that it was just slop.

I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of it is just gaming the system. Drake is being sued because he used a bot army, and apparently, Drake would pop in playlists no matter what the genre was specifically because of this.

Spotify might be pushing AI music as well so they can refuse to pay out later.

Personally, I don’t really mind it though. It’s almost impossible to tell and my ears like it no matter where it’s coming from. I have made a few songs and I’m surprised how much I enjoy them. I don’t think they are even good, but I wrote the lyrics so it resonates with me on a deeper level I guess and they also feel unique since they only exist really on my phone. I haven’t shared any though and I don’t really want too.

It is fucking the whole scene but the scene was already broken long ago because of record companies.

How does Internet fossilization work and why should you remplace your computer with a stone?
