“Gardner was charged with making a false statement concerning an emergency/crime and providing a false statement to a state official.”

Problem: She didn’t give a false statement to the cops, she sent it to her husband who sent it to the cops in good faith.

Unless she told her husband “Baby, call the cops”, that’s going to be a hard one to prove.

texted her husband the morning of Wednesday, Oct. 8 that a man forced his way inside their home when she answered the door

She basically said, “Baby, call the cops.”

I also don’t get it. It might be a weird prank, but it’s still very much in the realm of pranks to claim something is happening to your SO. Seems everyone acted in good faith and the police was upset and had to take it out on someone.

That’s not just a “weird” prank. She exercised extremely poor judgment, her husband reacted in a very reasonable manner; she’s clearly responsible for the waste of resources due to creating the situation. There’s not enough data to tell if she’s just stupid, mean, or somewhere in between.
