According to one of the removed mods, admins took over. It’s in Update 2 at the bottom:

I was a mod in r/Art for over a decade, albeit only active in spurts in recent years. I can confirm that no one resigned. The top active mod neodiogenes re-ordered the list, then removed everyone on the mod list except his bot. Then admins took over the subreddit.

The artist is selling a screenshot of the quitting announcement.

    Hahahahhahahahaha

One other mod showed a screenshot of being removed and that they didn’t just quit. It is possible it was one high level mod or mods kicking out the rest of the moderation team.

This is absolutely nothing new… Wonder how many other subreddit this idiot moderates because “moderator reporting user for harassment because they called me out on being a fragile piece of shit” is seemingly the trend over on that shit site. It needs to be shut down on the whole

That link is a great read, but glosses over the initial issue and apology. What I had read (maybe in your other post) was a self promotion rule was broken, really a minor one if it was a first time thing, and when the artist apologized, or rather I think it was more questioning if what he did was promotion at all (which I think is what sparked the mod to wield their power). Such a little thing that should have stayed in DMs and been resolved simply, but power tripping is a strong drug.

This can happen in smaller communities too, even on Lemmy. Ego-tripping mods are everywhere.

I think corrupt people being attracted to positions of power is far more common than a decent person being corrupted.

I originally posted this in the Technology community, but I was told to post here instead.

I think we are slowly witnessing the downfall of Reddit.

People are speculating if the top mod went nuclear and booted everybody. Glorious own-goal drama from the jannies
