Lemmy needs a chill pill when it comes to BlueAnon conspiracy crap. It hurts the movement.

It also gets red maga all freaked out and looking dumb. Like the escalator where the blue maga initially said someone did it on purpose and that made red maga go “how dare!” and then it turned out to be their dude and it made them look daf.

The fault with this train of thought is that it assumes that the MAGA nutters will see the correction. They won’t, and they’ll go on parroting the initial incorrect statement and that will just become yet another ‘alternative fact’ that they abide by.

Here’s the thing. Everyone here is SOOOOO ready to celebrate. And I get it. I do. But everyone needs to remember that as much as it feels like trump is the problem, he’s not. He’s just the face and the voice of the problem. He’s just the branding.

With or without him, project 2025 continues. ICE will continue doing what they’ve been doing. Some other asshole WILL take trumps place, and literally nothing changes. The problem remains.

These aren’t even NEW problems. Far from it. The ideas of in groups controlling out groups probably goes back to caveman days.

So, yeah. Celebrate his demise. Go ahead. Nothing wrong with that. Just know the fight is NOT over.

No, he is the movement. If he disappeared, people wouldn’t have to pretend to like him and would form different coalitions. Don’t underestimate the impact of a charismatic leader.

If Hitler died after taking France, the war would’ve gone very differently. Maybe they skip the Balkan campaign and go straight to the USSR, or maybe they keep the peace with the USSR and the US doesn’t have an eastern ally. Maybe the US attacks Japan first before dealing with Germany because the new German leader establishes some form of diplomacy with Roosevelt, meaning N. Korea doesn’t get Soviet support.

      Leaders are important, especially populists.

I think the broader point is that if he were to kick the bucket it would be a major oppurunity to divide his movement. Celebrating his death would just galvanize and unify them more. With a little discipline the seeds of doubt could be sown among them so that the nation can be realigned back on the right path.

Even if MAGA were divided into just two factions they would lose substantial power. If he were to pass away, the people and media would need to unify and slam on the Epstein files hard, since that seems to be the most divisive issue in the group and he would not be alive to block it. If posthumously the truth comes out about his misdeeds, MAGA would be divided and lost.

This is an opportunity that cannot be looked over. If and when his advanced age gets to him, the temperature needs to be increased and pressure needs to be put on his syncophants (some of whom wanted these files released previously) to make those files public.

Some are diminishing your point but I think ultimately this is a cult of personality without an heir apparent. When he came down that golden escalator 10 years ago, racists saw themselves in him and said that’s my guy. No one else in the party has the right mix of grade 4 level rhetoric and what I would call “bemusing hatred” to capture their imaginations so effectively.

Vance, Miller et al. have the hatred but they’re too educated / academic. Others may be able to lower the reading level of their rhetoric but no one really has that bemusement factor. Those that support him want to have a chuckle while reveling in hatred. It gives them that extra little dopamine hit.

Tranaitions of power are always points of vulnerability. It would be an historic mistake to let that moment pass under the assumption that MAGA is too organized or united to be affected by the passing of the man that started the movement.

Every fascist movement needs a Führer and they usually fall apart when the Führer is gone. I’m not saying everything will be fine once he dies but it’ll be a lot harder for the Nazis to galvanize their base the way Trump does.

They don’t need to anymore though. The tools of repression are in place and whoever would succeed Trump, Vance I suppose, would wield those tools much harder to cement his place. Examples are Stalin taking over after Lenin or Maduro after Chavez. It will get so much worse with Trump gone and a less popular figure following in his footsteps. It’s the dictator playbook 101.

Possibly the only thing I can maybe hope for is that the next person to take the throne cannot command the same MAGA charisma (whatever the fuck that is) to unite MAGAts the same way and it furthers in-party fractioning and infighting.

That or so many people with their snowflake egos will want to use it as an opportunity to move up that they’ll destroy each other.

I hate calling whatever the fuck trump has “charisma.” If I knew nothing about him and met him at a bar I would still want to punch him in his smug face. He’s an asshole and so clearly an absolute idiot… And yet Maga eats it all up.

So I agree, so much damage has been done, but I don’t see Vance or anyone else commanding the same unwavering authority. I hope we’re not wrong.

Progressives like myself don’t like him because he’s mostly just another corporate Democrat, but I have to admit that I can see Newsome taking up that mantle and being somewhat effective with the less extreme of the MAGAt base.

Trump may not be the last boss, but he is a boss, and I’m going to celebrate when he’s finally gone

Though, I’m also going to wonder who got him first, the green berets… seals… marine Recon. maybe those coast guard guys that use barrets to stop gofast boats in their wake… maybe the Chairforce CSAR guys… maybe the Space Force peeps… with their space laser…

So many options so little time.

I’m not going to celebrate the end of the problem, but the end of one of the worst offenders in public. And that I don’t have to watch his shitty face and hear his puke-like voice anymore. I’m going to celebrate the demise or incarceration of every single one of those assholes. And I’m not even on the same continent as them.

I’ve found it shocking how little it’s been addressed, how clearly high or ill he was. He made no sense and slurred the whole time, could barely even keep his eyes open.
