Funnier: Yes, it’s what happens today, and Silicon Valley is old enough that we can compare and contrast with the beginning of techbro art! The original techbro film is Toy Story (1995), which is much weirder if viewed with e.g. the precept that Buzz’s designers are Elon fans or the idea that (some of) the toys are robots. Of course, from the outside, AI toy robots make folks think of Small Soldiers (1998); “generic” and “slop” are definitely part of the style. Also, as long as we’re talking of “pearly blobs” I have to bring up The Abyss (1989) before anybody else. I hope at least one of these is a lucky 10000 for you because they’re all classic films.

God, the faces. Why don’t the boosters see how wrong the expressions are? Especially the videos, half the time they look like serial killers who are about to sneeze.

Why don’t the boosters see how wrong the expressions are?

Its because boosters literally cannot tell good art from slop. As far as these soulless, artless husks are concerned, both are mere Units of Contenttm to be mindlessly consumed, and nothing more. The heart and soul put into an excellent story, the years of experience beaming off a masterful painting, the blood, sweat and tears put into an animated magnum opus, all of it is utterly fucking incompehensible to them. They literally lack the basic artistic insight necessary to understand it.

Its basically the same thing with the NFT fad of a few years ago - NFT “art” is just as soulless and hollow as any piece of AI slop spewed out onto the Internet nowadays, but that didn’t register to the capital-brained filth who were attracted to them like flies to shit.

I’d argue that NFT “art” was an early form of AI slop, since most NFT collections were “procedurally generated”, ie, an algorithm took a set of base image components and remixed them to generate tens of thousands of different images of racist monkeys or whatever.

The fact that Trump’s 2024 collection of AI slop was, in retrospect, the last dying gasp of the NFT fad, is just so fitting. One massive scam passing the torch to another.

The only thing that is allowed to tell good art from slop is the AI which needs to consume good art and not slop.
