Not quite what I’m saying. I’m saying that LLMs have created new conditions for credibility with the public. If people distrust LLMs, and LLMs sound bookish, then anyone who reads books is going to sound like an LLM, whereas the illiterate assholes are going to sound human in the same way that LLMs aren’t going to piss and poop their pants like a human is capable of doing
To answer your question, yes and no. I disagree it’s hyper-reductionist. I see it as just textbook definition. Yes in that I am beginning to realize that people are irked when I use dictionary definitions, but i have yet to learn which words are sensitive or buzzwords. Apparently, I’ve had one person describe my whole style of writing as problematic, so it may go beyond mere buzzwords. I’ll put “lust” in a spreadsheet and label it as a buzzword, or politically incorrect, or undiplomatic, or another synonym of the same thing.

“in the cases” makes it sound like irrationality is rare. It’s not rare. It’s always. Maybe the models have some sort of predictive power, but the explanation for why they work is faulty
yeah the benevolent sexism online is unchecked and rampant. I got banned for calling out the benevolent sexism. Women are perfect angels always. God bless women. I love women. Trust me I do a lot of compliment sandwhiching, especially on email, and y’know what? it almost seems like it makes people megalomaniacal. They begin to see you as inferior and themselves as superior. They treat you even worse. As an opposite example, I had one email chain where I lost my temper a little. My loss of temper straighten them out and respect me. It was odd.
I was trained with the non-violent communication and conflict resolution, but in practice, people are much weirder and grotesque than those models suggest.

Dude you’re wise beyond your years. You figured out something. Reminds me of the idiom “choose your battles” and “cross to bear”. I cite Jordan Peterson begrudgingly because he has a bad reputation but he says some really great things sometimes like “You don’t get not to sacrifice, but you do get to choose what you sacrifice”. I’m paraphrasing but it was related to growing up and how we have to make sacrifices when we age. Knowing what you’re willing to die for, symbolically, literally, is important. It sounds like you’re willing to sacrifice your connections to the ideologically captured authoritarians, which can have real devastating effects, y’know? An internet ban is a pathetically, small, minuscule price to pay, but when they are in power, you may have to sacrifice a lot more like your opportunities, salary, and hell even your right to not be in jail. Anyways, i am making this deeper than necessarily demanded
Letting you know that you’ve peaked my interest because this sounds like a plausible explanation. I’ve been thinking along similar lines and described the phenomena as “word-fetishism” or “Lust” (for words, status, other things). I’m very curious as to hear what you are seeing

When I say market, Imagine a farmers market. There’s typically booths and such. Now each vendor has a right to have a booth and sell products. Now, let’s pretend that the popular product at this farmers market is a tide pod. The shoppers love to buy the Tide pod and eat it. Even though people get sick, they just love the tide pods so much that they keep coming for more. From a bystander perspective, they would say, “wow you must have a great product! Everyone keeps buying from you!” but in reality the product is poison and the shoppers are irrational. Do you get what I’m giving out?
