I say “dead” because to be dead is to “not make an appearance”. They describe celebrities as “making an appearance”. Appearances has become our reality now. If you do not speak up, you are not heard and may as well be dead (invisible).
Think about all those people in prisons. they are invisible. They are to be tortured and no one knows about it. Think of all those people wrongfully detained or beat up by cops and there’s no recording of it. No record = didn’t happen; no pics = didn’t happen. Why is it that we know of Einstein and not some other great genius? it’s because Einstein has records while others don’t.
If you don’t not understand how to “look good on camera” you’re basically screwed. We are all models, so might as well smile for the camera Understand how to look good on camera
“Modeling is truly an art form, and you have to respect it and do the research and the work,” says Liris Crosse, a leading plus-size model and former Project Runway winner, who also runs a model workshop and masterclass. It’s not enough to be physically attractive, she explains—you have to understand how to look good on camera. “I think it’s important, especially for new models, to get information from people who have actually done it. I see people who offer classes and I’m like,** ‘I’ve never seen you** in an ad.’ I have the actual credentials to back it up. And I’m still working, so I’m continuously backing it up. I’m giving you the shortcut of what took me over a decade to get myself.” https://www.backstage.com/magazine/article/become-model-4598/
The first Reality TV show was Candid Camera and it premiered in 1948.
They used hidden cameras. Generalizing that outward, that’s terrifying. Candid camera is also an unethical porn genre
Not sure what you’re talking about … I’m pretty much never on camera.
look for the security cameras outside. Once you see, it’s everywhere. Remember that everyone is tapped with microphones and cameras known as smartphones. At any moment, someone can whip out their phone and you could instantly be the next Reality TV Star. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/the-u-s-uses-surveillance-cameras-just-as-much-as-china/ https://cybernews.com/editorial/this-is-the-most-heavily-surveilled-city-in-the-us-50-cctv-cameras-per-1000-citizens/
Sure there are some security cameras, but unless there is an incident that footage never see the light of day.
Remember that everyone is tapped with microphones and cameras known as smartphones
No, that’s a baseless conspiracy.
At any moment, someone can whip out their phone and you could instantly be the next Reality TV Star
I guess there is a small chance of going viral and have a few days of fame but I would hardly call that being a star. Also I’ll actively stay away from people that do selfies and tiktoks to further reduce chances of that happening to me.
ok well seems like there’s some denial happening. Can’t get through to everyone.
Uhhh, never heard of Castaway?
that guy went insane wym
Histrionic personality?
incomplete sentences?$&%*
You lost the plot with this one, quacky!
Losing the plot sounds like letting go of old narratives
But is it bad to be “dead” for the internet crowd? Is there any impact that one is missing from the public?
Does being in the moment irl and helping actual physical other people mean less than the next Instagram reel?
That’s a good question, the first one, because predatory attention, like being hunted by a lion, is obviously not good. This goes for the government agencies, police, but it could also go for violent gangs or individuals.
The public gives you everything. Look around the room. None of it came from you. The computer, made by someone else. The house/shetler, made by someone else. So being in the good graces with the public helps you get things. That’s also the same idea of money. someone gave you money, so you are permitted, allowed access to stuff. Maybe it is not common but those who are truly isolated knows how much people depend on each other, especially strangers.
Think of the Instagram reel as a resume or portfolio. It grants you access to things, like jobs, which grants you access to house/shelter, food, water, basic needs, etc. If you didn’t have access to jobs, or friends or family, you’re screwed. A digital presence says “hey, i’m not new. I’ve been around. I’m of value.” it’s like currency in its own right. But more than that. it is a status symbol. “I can’t be abandoned because I am someone of value.” Like the Judge who is pulled over by the police and asks, “don’t you know who I am?” because the judge is of higher status than the police.
But you don’t get those physical things (a job, shelter, food and friends) with digital resumes/portfolios alone or at all.
You still have to provide a CV, a letter and proofs to your employee. You still need to provide creditworthiness to a landlord to rent property and or to a bank to buy it outright.
You can’t get physical sensations over the digital either.
provide a CV, a letter and proofs … creditworthiness
YES EXACTLY! These are the gatekeepers in society. And these credentials are also digital, like a passcode to a bank account. There is nuance yeah because we are also in the real world but the thing is that our society is a giant Disney World where the imaginary and the real are co-mingled. You know of Mickey Mouse costume-guy before you ever met him because you have hallucinated the Mickey Mouse cartoon on TV. You greet him with joy and enthusiasm because he is familiar. However, if he was a random guy, you would be hostile towards them. The guy is real but mickey mouse isn’t. It’s hard for me to articulate this because i am still in the process of venturing out in unexplored areas. Anyways, you’re right there are gatekeepers in society, and proving your worthiness to them is life/death

- Celebrity
No country in the world idolizes celebrities like the U.S. does. Some theorists suggest America’s emphasis on celebrity culture is tied to the Latin concept of panem et circenses, or “bread and circuses,” a concept used to distract the populace from their problems. The name Panem comes from that concept. In the book, the Hunger Games contestants become celebrities who distract the people of the 12 districts from the inequalities that define their lives.
“If you look around and see how pervasive reality TV is in our lives, how frequently we make celebrities out of nothing, you’ll notice that distraction is everywhere,” Winfield said. “Celebrities are always in the news next to updates about politics and wars. The Hunger Games take the idea of celebrity and distraction to a more extreme level through the circus that is the annual Hunger Games”
Also the first point in that article is power disparity. If you’ve ever been poor and then become a student or in a well paying job or moved to a new country, you know intuitively the wealth disparity and how some people just have basic needs secure and don’t even have to think about it. If you ever been homeless or in a country not the US or Europe then you’d know this feeling of being raised in elevation by things like a a badge access or physical geography (like a new country/state/city) or money/debit card or status
