minus-squareimmutable@lemmy.ziplinkfedilinkarrow-up21arrow-down1·3 days agoRight but if everyone stays peaceful then the de facto martial law won’t become declared martial law. And this is clearly beneficial because of all these benefits of being under de facto martial law instead of declared martial law like hmm well let’s see there should probably be some kind of benefits here Not convinced yet? Well you see there’s also a host of benefits you get from quietly obeying and surrendering your rights like getting shot by unaccountable federal officers having your door kicked in for exercising your rights to free speech emboldening the fascists by showing there’s nothing you are willing to do to defend yourself If everyone stays peaceful, surely the jackbooted thugs who delight in hurting and killing citizens and immigrants alike will… continue doing that.

minus-squareimmutable@lemmy.ziplinkfedilinkarrow-up4·edit-23 days agoAccording to Wikipedia, on paper yes but in practice the duty to retreat has been upheld in case law. Even if you have a jurisdiction with rock solid castle doctrine, using that as a defense for shooting at law enforcement is a perilous legal strategy.

They know they don’t have the data to back up a warrant, so they clearly aren’t putting much time checking where they’re invading.
