I love/hate that I read an article once debating that an artifact of that kind, whether it belonged to a person or a dog, and that both were viable options considering ancient Roman society.

Loving pets… and owning people. The past is a gruesome place.

Christ, what was the thought process? “Hey, only a small fraction of the population wears necklaces regularly. What on fucking earth should we make our flagship product that is meant to appeal to as many people as possible?”

You’re looking at this wrong. How many employees wear a lanyard?

From a business case its brilliant. Dystopian as fuck but brilliant. Every McDonalds manager now has a high def camera that can be voice activated around their neck, Every Walmart greeter and shift supervisor, every Home Depot Dept head…

Sketchy looking guy near the expensive power tools? “Pineapples 'Hi sir can I help you with anything today?”

Need to ask someone to leave? “Pineapples Ok, we cant allow that in the restaurant. You need to leave please”

          See a sketchy looking person

I agree this is a dumb product. My guess is they think pockets are occupied with phones, which will be the interface for these things. They must doubt smart glasses for form or some reason, hence necklace. I have 0 interest in wearing a body cam that reports everything back to some server. I’ve got enough trackers on my body already.

Its not a consumer product, its a big business product. You just turned every Walmart staff member into a walking security camera that also monitors the staff member.

What is that camera device onnthe left for? I mean, obviously it’s a tool for surveillance capitalists to rake in more and more data, sure. But what’s the selling point, what is Sam Altman tellingbthe people what it is for?

We all need to reject both of these equally hard. Whatever that fucking thing on the left is, it needs to sell zero units at launch.

Heh. That’s pretty much exactly what I wanted to say after those times I tried to join the circus as a kid. 🤪
