That plastic bag estimate is off by a factor of 100. Obviously this isn’t meant to be taken seriously but it still feels like misinformation. Someone will see that and decide it’s true.
What do the plastic bags break down into when they decompose?
I am under the impression they don’t decompose at all, just break into smaller pieces.
Based on what I’ve read, you are correct, and plastic might never really decompose. It breaks into smaller and smaller pieces which are stable enough to stay plastic essentially forever. That 1000 to 2000 year thing that I read about contradicts some other things I’ve read, so it’s pretty confusing. I need to track down that article and clarify this.
The best thing we can do as a species is eliminate as much plastic waste as possible.
The duration for a plastic bag to break down primarily depends on the type of plastic used, and a number of environmental factors.
There are plastics that actually break down in a few years, other plastics are in the centuries to millennium range. On top of that, it depends on the environment, too: acidic, basic, wet, dry, protected, exposed, temperature, etc.
Sure got my hopes up about Cleveland
OK, its official: I’m shifting my stock portfolio to cryogenic companies. I will take a 15,000 year nap and wake up to a pure world or die trying
why do you want to get rid of your one and a half cursed armor ?
What? That’s staying with me under ice. You’ll have to pluck my cursed armor off my corpse before I take it off! (I die if it’s ever removed)
ah I see so that’s why the knight name
Can someone explain the neutron star to me? I thought the heat death of the universe would put a cap on that.
That also said the pain of a breakup would end after 6 months 😔
It says decompose, not end. It’s just now part of the soil, forever. Seems about right
I’m glad they included Cleveland. Never been, but sounds like a great place that should last that long.
Lmao, the grandpa one is savage
Unless your grandma was Marie Curie
How many teeth does grandpa have?
Cleveland Ohio is decomposing much faster than that, based on my travels there years ago
pretty sure a broken heart takes longer
c/usefulguides
Apparently if Grandpa were not embalmed, he’d decompose to bones in a satisfyingly symmetrical 9 months.
Wait a minute
I’m also wondering about the two teeth.
What’s the original image?
It’s obvious plant so it’s probably on some sort of noticeboard but the OG image has been cropped
