I like how in French (and maybe related languages) the word is

I would argue the Democratic Party in the USA isn’t liberal. They are just conservatives with different lobbyists and the low bar of still believing in the democratic process.

Liberal is mostly a relative term. The US Democratic Party, on the greater global political spectrum, is just right of center imo.
This is the party liberals want me to count on to respect my rights.
