I once posted a Youtube video from this man in my disability-focused community, in which he helped a lot of people get prostheses, because I thought was he did in his video was kind of cool.

I didn’t know him back then. The post and the video got backlash I didn’t expect.

Now I know him and I understand why.

Exploiting the poor for fame and fortune, and making it out as if he’s charitable for doing it.

*It always surprises me the number of people that jump to his defense. Fucking weird.

But how did he exploit the poor? By giving them money for content? Is that what you call exploitation? Wait till you find out what “job” is

Huh? No, but if someone asked me to smile for camera or do something for a quick payout, I would not see myself as being exploited, but rather we both getting something out of this deal. I don’t understand what does lemmy see so wrong with this

There’s an interview with at least one of his staff who breaks down over the bullying, torture, etc. he experienced due to needing money.

“exploit the poor” is a bit of an odd way to phrase “mistreated employees”. I have seen stories is the later though.

I suspect the “exploit the poor” accusation also comes from the fundamental premise of “helping people” who need it while actually benefiting yourself through fame, ad revenue, etc. Pretty much the dictionary definition of exploitation to use someone for your own ends.

So he doesn’t actually help people who need it? Or does he help them but he’s “a bit of a dick about it”?

Why are you moving the goal posts/building new goal posts? I thought the question was whether he “exploits the poor.” It’s cool if you’re a Beast Lover or whatever you people call yourselves. I think he’s a piece of shit, but you do you.

I read that he has his giveaways, but he keeps it or the person that won is his friend or family or someone close.

He trapped a professional stuntman in a burning building with a pyrotechnics crew, multiple fire suppression methods, and a professionally tested saftey system?

Wait until you hear about what Ridley Scott did to Matt Damon on Mars.

Is he that bad? Like maybe it is a whole “look how good I am” type schtick, but his videos make views, the views make money and at least a portion of that goes towards making people’s lives significantly better. Some people would be fine with appearing in a video in order to get help. It’s not even in an undignified manner either.

I think there are more people to be hating on in this world apart from Mr Beast.

I don’t even watch his content, I just don’t get the hate when there’s worse things going on.

On the other hand, plenty of companies do that every day without doing any charity in return. I wouldn’t say he’s the biggest priority in the fight against evil yet.
