I’ve only bought a few…
Your wife may be right on this one…
TBH, she usually is.
edit: Other than marrying me. That was her mistake, but I’m not correcting her.
I got lucky and found a pillow I love when I was a young adult, and I’ve been using it around 15 years. Tempur Pedic makes a pillow that looks like the red Saddam Hussein meme, and in the past it was made out of very dense foam so it has retained its shape all these years. I bought a second one recently and they have cheaped out in a big way and it sucks now :(
It is notably meant for back sleeping only and is only like 4" tall and cradles the back of your head keeping your spine straight. It’s so good, and I’ll probably never find a replacement.
That’s the same problem I have: every time I find a good one, it sucks the next time I buy it.
… How does a pillow look like a meme?
I was too lazy to go find a photo. Here is a photo of the Tempur Pedic pillow I am talking about.
Your neck rests on the larger side and your skull rests in the valley supported evenly all around. The taller side is only 4" tall on the small size, which is smaller than they recommended for my height, but the medium had too much pressure. It’s been a perfect pillow.
The new models don’t use the same foam density though so it’s springier than it should be
Gotcha. I actually have one of those. My kid loved it because, when I got it, they fit perfectly on it. Since then they’ve grown a bit.
You’re not alone in your search for the perfect pillow
It takes me so long to find one that works, then it somehow or another becomes unusable, and I never remember what kind of pillow it was and where I got it
Just bought a new pillow yesterday after giving up on the last one I tried for a few months. I find myself switching between two different pillows every few nights, until eventually I give up on one of them and try another. Rinse and repeat
One day. One day, we’ll find that perfect pillow
Very curious to know how yesterday’s pillow goes!
For years my wife made fun of me for all the pillows I’d use. Then one day I was tired and all the pillow cases were off so I slept without one and I am never going back to the fluffy prison. Sleeping flat is great. I can’t say for sure the pillows were the problem but my standing posture improved noticeabley within a week or so and I was in no way attempting to improve that.
Same, I quit using pillows years ago, they were never right. it didn’t change my bad posture though.
Slept without a pillow or a pillow case?
Pillow. I sweat too much to sleep without pillow cases.
You have more pillows than I have shoes & tee shirts
… Thank you?
Dude, just like you. I have 4 bulged discs in my neck and this is the ONLY pillow I’ve ever found to not cause me neck pain or make it worse. It will take you a few nights to swap around the components to find what’s best for you, but sooo worth the price. Components I don’t use for me make a great second pillow for the bed. Good luck!
I’m pretty sure that’s one of the pillows under my head. I recognize the gray border.
What happened to your spine?
Had a head and neck MRI a few years back and that’s when I first knew of them (highest is C3-C4, 4mm). Wracked my brain trying to figure out when that happened. Finally, remembered.
When I was 12 dove off a 3m board and didn’t arch away from the bottom fast enough, landed squarely on the top of my head, jaw dug into my sternum and lost all my air. Scraped the hair off my scalp even. Was on vacation and knew I shouldn’t have been diving, so I said nothing to anyone. It was forgotten after the hair grew back.
I had neck pain forever until in my 20s someone cradled my head while I bent my knees and suspended my body weight to pull on my neck. It popped like crazy and (I realize now) realigned itself. I was pretty much pain free from that point, except for sleeping. Never put the neck pain together with the diving accident. Really wish I had even an xray of it before that. Curious how it looked.
Retrospectively, having cared for many new quadriplegics in trauma settings, I know now how close I came that day to being one and how truly lucky I was. The whole realization of it fucked with me for while, but now just so grateful.
What do you do that has you caring for so many quadriplegics?
Well, what do you recommend?
So far, the best option I’ve found is an Allswell pillow with cooling cover with a Purple (I think this is the one I bought) on top. I also put a memory foam pillow between my legs (I have no idea of the brand; I bought it almost twenty years ago from a then local mattress store and the tag has long since worn off).
I also like a hugging pillow. I have yet to find a good one.
FYI, I think Allswell is owned by Walmart.
You’re a two pillow sleeper? What a mad lad. Gives me neck pain just thinking about it. I am interested in both of those pillows though. Thanks for the recommendations.
I used to sleep with a pillow wedge, which isn’t included in that picture.
I’d consistently wake up at the bottom of it.
Not op but I’m also picky about pillows. My current favorite is the tempurpedic serenity pillow. It’s amazing. I also recommend the Hampton inn pillow but the name escapes me. You can Google it though.
I bought a tempurpedic pillow that you can adjust the fill on and kinda feel like a sucker for it. I don’t feel like I can get the right firmness no matter how much or little I fill it
Sounds like a neat idea but I can see how that would be an issue.
Ha. I’m going to have to show this to my partner who thought I bought too many pillows. I like sleep. I want to be rested when I sleep. I landed on the Purple Harmony as my go to.
I had this one amazing pillow for years but I needed to replace it, but couldn’t find it again, the result was like that picture haha. I finally find one that works for me though, and now I have a lot of extra pillows for guests hah.
What’s the one that works for you?
Surprisingly the costco novaform pillow.
Just the right height so it doesn’t make my neck uncomfortable. Just enough support and foam squishyness.

It might not be the perfect pillow, but it works unlike all the other ones that didn’t.
I’ll have to ask my wife to pick this up on their next Costco run. Thanks!
It’s cheap as well so not a big loss if it doesn’t work. I’ve spent like $80-$100 on them at times and just hated them.
The smell people complain about does go away, it’s just typical memory foam smell.
Try a water filled pillow. It stopped my search for the perfect pillow.
Any that you recommend? Do you fear that it will spring a leak? Does it get too hot? Does it work if you switch from lying on your back to your side?
I too would like to end my search; please send help
Sorry for the late reply. My pillow is from Mediflow, I think. I bought it about 7 years ago, never had any problems with leaks or anything. I was worried in the beginning but the outer material is very sturdy, I don’t even mind my cats walking on the pillow anymore.
It’s quite comfy in all sleeping positions, never had a problem with temperature. I had to overfill the pillow way above the recommended level, after that it has been perfect.
Maybe you would like Mr Shifty!
Amazon has Beednova brand Premium Hotel Pillows, they are a simulated down pillow, and it is the best pillow I’ve ever had.
Nice! Thanks!
I’m pretty bad about them too. We bought a king sized bed a few years ago, so I had to replace the normal-sized pillow I had used for the last ten years and was still totally happy with. It was a huge process because the company had changed their product since then. I bought two different pillows from that place thinking they’d be the same, but hated them. Then I bought one for me and one for my wife as part of the deal that came with the bed, neither of which worked out for more than a month. I finally found a good one that I’ve been using ever since when I went to a mattress store that had a bunch of pillows out. Hopefully this one is at least as durable as the last one I had because i don’t want to buy another for a long time.
I have to strictly control my pillow count otherwise my bed will become a literal nest.
You don’t know comfort until you’ve arranged a dozen or so pillows of different thicknesses and softness in juuuust the right way.
I currently have 4 pillows of different thickness and softness and a support blanket (my favorite blanket folded up to snuggle like a body pillow or as a wall of nest) behind me on top of a wedge. When my partner is out of the bed I take theirs too and yes it’s my nest and it’s very comfy and it’s very hard to leave
But anyone who wants to join is invited! Cuddle puddle ( ◜‿◝ )♡
The problem I usually have is, I may setup my pillows in juuuust the right way, but then I’ll wake up with them in just the wrong way.
Have you tried down? I have a similar, though not quite as impressive, pillow mountain in my closet.
I stayed at a hotel with down pillows, and they were perfect! I got my own set at home, and have been using them for about 4 months now. Better than anything I’ve tried!
I have not tried down extensively, but in my experience it tends to … Kind of collapse. Do you like flat pillows?
edit: That’s a sincere question, not meant to be passive aggressive.
IKEA sells down pillows if you have one near. The most expensive is the most firmly packed. I think it’s like $70. I have to travel with mine it takes up my whole duffel.
No, that’s why I love mine, they are still so fluffy.
Then I shall add them to my pile! Thank you for the recommendation.
Found them in my order history: https://a.co/d/b8nZbZd
Very rude of you to have cost me $40-70.
But I have nasal issues. Based on your username, I’m not alone. I’ll try to remember to let you know how this purchase goes.
I hope you love them!
