Thank you, mainstream media, for showing how complicit and willing you are to shill any view given by those in power.

Journalism is dead and has been for decades, sadly.

I mean, it’s still pretty good in the free world. There is decay, but it’s not like living in countries like Russia, USA, or China. There’s a reason why Murdoch left Australia.

Yeah typical young male college dropout, lives with mom, permanent online, lame meme stuff.

Aimless youth is a dangerous thing. There were a lot of young men in EU that joined ISIS who had a similar background. It just depends on the particular echo chamber as to which radicalization takes effect.

I do want to see how the news is going to explain the phrasing to the mainstream.

Pretty sure false headlines like this actually increase engagement, and the retraction increases engagement again. They are optimally playing the capitalism game, not dying.

        1. Publish BS that one side of the political aisle wants to hear & they eat it up.

        2. Publish article calling out the first story’s BS, and get those on the other side of the political aisle eating it up.

        3. Profit!

EDIT: fixed “aisle” thanks to @[email protected]. I know that’s the correct word, but I dunno why I didn’t think of it when writing this initially. I think my brain’s slowly turning to mush as I age.

Agreed. We’ve turned into the headline mattering more than the content.

Facebook, Reddit, Twitter, Lemmy, etc., there’s comments everywhere “did you even read the article?” We’re looking for the fastest confirmation bias and it’s easy when it’s the title.

Fox News and OAN will run with the transgender headline and be quiet at the redaction, the damage is done.

What people are slow to realize is how well the Trump administration is playing this game. The headlines about Trump suing over the 2020 election is all they wanted, people tend to give validity to something that’s at the courts, regardless of the verdict.

Conservatives are incapable of being shamed. They elected a pedophile and convicted felon who put together the least qualified government in history, and cheered when a South African Nazi threw out Nazi salutes behind the podium of the president. If none of that could make them feel ashamed, then falsely blaming the shooting on their current greatest enemy, trans people, has no chance.

Settle down, Francis. I don’t believe something just because someone posted a picture of someone else’s tweet saying it. That’s how propaganda works.

This is someone making a claim, secondhand. People who make claims have the burden of proof. I am not making a claim.

        e: https://discuss.tchncs.de/comment/20824428

And the claim isn’t true. That wasn’t a retraction.

The thread parent posted, as a quote from somewhere:

Cartridges with “transgender and anti-fascist” writing on them were found.

                A responder replied:

are you seeing that in the article?

Because that claim was not in the article posted.

I replied, what you’re linking to:

That’s from other reporting, but it is being reported from legitimate sources.

That it was being reported. At legitimate sources. Which it was. Being reported.

I would argue that news organizations that report about something that could incite more violence without knowing any details is not legitimate.

Edit: Downvote me all you want, but reporting on something that immediately sounded made up without asking any more questions or knowing any details is journalistic malpractice.

    https://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/national-international/trump-administration-charlie-kirk-fbi-israel-gaza-september-12-2025/6390837/

    From what I’m seeing:

    10:39 AM EDT

Suspect's bullet casings had anti-fascist inscriptions engraved
    By Danielle Abreu
Gov. Cox confirmed that investigators discovered a bolt-action rifle and scope wrapped in a towel and inscriptions engraved on bullet casings belonging to the suspect in the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk.

One of the inscriptions read, "Hey, fascist. Catch!" and another read, “If you read this, you are gay." A third casing had the lyrics to “Bella Ciao," an Italian folk anthem sung by the anti-fascist resistance movement during World War II.

Looks like it’s possible. Sidenote, hilarious to me hearing the Utah governor read what sounds like c/196 transcriptions in such an official voice.

      Reuters:

The bullet that killed Kirk had also been inscribed: "Notices Buldge OWO what’s this?”

Casings, not bullets. In this image, the casing is the big brass part, and the projectile is the smaller part sticking out the end.

Also notice that 30.06 has a large casing. It’s a big round.

It was the standard infantry round for the US through 2 world wars, and was by far the most popular hunting round for decades. It was replaced by the military with the adoption of the 7.62 NATO (essentially a .308, but there’s more to it than that) with the move to standardization between the allies, and that was replaced as the standard round by the 5.56/.223 with the move to lower caliber, and now this new Sig whatever.

It’s a little outmoded these days and lots of manufacturers have moved on to more modern ammo for hunting and precision shooting, but it remains popular simply because of how ubiquitous it was.

In the video the Utah Gov. also says “Spots bulge, OwO” or something like that, idk why they left it out in the text I copied.

But yeah still not technically transgender, just whatever “uwu shit” is called (back in my day we spoke 1337, idk the name of this new tongue.)
