Maybe if you fucking finished a story other people wouldn’t have to give it a substandard ending George…

Have you seen GoT Season 8?

I’d say it could have been improved by not existing.

GoT season 8 plays like an authors notebook. There are sketched ideas, completed scenes, and no transition work or idea completion beyond the half-assed.

The writers on GoT finished nothing. They appear to have set an authors idea notebook as a script instead of writing a complete script.

They could’ve done better. Ho’Dor for example. His full story arc is not in the book. Clearly, Martin had that scene fully written out in his little notebook. The writers worked that well and did it right. You could feel it. I’m getting chills all over again just thinking about it.

Those same writers got lazy in 8. It’s well documented they were trying to rush off to the next job. The good news is, they were fired from that next job for the terrible job they did on 8.

It’s wild how vindictive people can be over a tv show. It wasn’t perfect? Oh well. Just deal with it and move on. It’s not worth harboring hate and resentment for those involved forever after.

            The vitriol is laughable!

People are mad due to the steep fall from grace in the last two seasons. GoT was the best television I’ve ever seen, but I won’t get far into season 7 before turning it off.

But what makes it bad? Can you elaborate? Cuz I watched it and I mean it wasn’t as good as season 3 or whatever. But I didn’t think that it was a total piece of shit either. I really just don’t understand. I don’t think. And Daenerys had been unhinged for seasons by the time she tried to burn King’s Landing. I just don’t understand it

The battle at Winterfell is a perfect microcosm of the issues. Even apart from the shit artistic work (everything was so dark you could barely see what was happening), almost every scene made no sense:

              • they start by sending a bunch of people into the army of the undead only for them to die & turn into more undead
              • the catapults etc. are in front of the castle gates where they’re easily destroyed
              • they put their most vulnerable into the crypts, where dozens of dead bodies lie, while fully aware their enemies can reanimate them
              • characters keep getting into situations and scenes where it looks like they’ll surely die, only for them to be fine in the next scene
              • almost everyone survives what is basically an unwinnable battle
              • Bran doesn’t do shit
              • they shit all over the Azor Ahai prophecy by having Aria “end” the long night via killing the Night King, while Jon Snow has basically no relevancy

I can’t think of a single good choice in that episode. It took one of the greatest series of all time, and made what is essentially the climax look worse than a B-movie from the 2000s

There were too many illogical moments that made the viewer scream, “Oh for crying out loud!”

I’ve never been one to look for those sorts of things, rarely notice on a first viewing, but here’s one that grabbed me:

Daenerys is the heroine for flying her dragon around the corner to see the incoming invasion fleet. Posting a dude with a signal fire on the cliff overlooking the only invasion route would have done the trick.

And Daenerys had been unhinged for seasons by the time she tried to burn King’s Landing.

Not quite like that. I remember feeling that she was very out of character when first watching S8. And she wasn’t the only one. And a lot of storylines were just ended super abruptly, which just ruin years of built up.

But it’s been quite a while since I’ve watched it. This drunk scottish bloke explains it quite well.

You’re not crazy. It wasn’t as bad as everyone says, it just wasn’t as good as earlier seasons. The people freaking out about it were either far too wrapped up in a tv show, or just get off on hating things.

For some, the the bar is just being entertained, and that’s fine. For those that appreciated the depth of story and characterization earlier on, it was a tremendous disappointment. If you don’t or cant appreciate those aspects, trying to invalidate them to justify your opinion isn’t necessary. It’s fine for people to be critical and expect more from their media; especially for a series that had a marked decline in quality.
