Wait wait wait wait. I know I’ve been surprised by this map numerous times.

    BUT RUSSIA RECOGNIZES IT?

Also looking at this map, it seems the majority of the population of Earth recognizes it.

So in my head, that means that Palestine is 100% a nation. With sovereignty. And the US, Europe, and Australia are still “lalala i can’t hear you” and “can’t be a genocide if you aren’t a targeted group of people that we recognize lalalalala.”

      BUT RUSSIA RECOGNIZES IT?

Soviet Union was one of the major (if not the major) advocates for Palestine in UN. Russia still has significant connections to Palestine. For example, president of Palestine went to a victory day parade in Moscow this year.

Back when they were a communist nation, they and most other communist/aligned countries recognized them.

Commies are cool, as it turns out.

Kinda depends on what kind of commie. Authoritarians like CCP, Bolsheviks and the Kim family? Never. But the Kronstadt sailors who died fighting the hypocrisies of the Bolsheviks, and the Japanese Communist Party who chose the peaceful route to try to gain power? They are cool.

It’s not about peaceful routes, it’s about sustainability and avoiding evil.

Not all Bolsheviks were awful, too. It’s just that the general agreement about “we are doing a marxist revolution and transforming a country worse than intended for that, and so we can only afford unity and centralism, and some hard solutions are necessary” meant that the hard solutions led from executions of some people to executions of many, and unity led to gradually destroying opposition (the communist kind), and centralism led ultimately to Stalin.

Commies are just as bad as Nazis.

That’s the truth. It’s a failed murderous ideology that killed tens of millions in a few short decades and brought nothing but poverty, tyranny, death, and destruction everywhere it went. It’s flawed in both theory and practice, which is why it collapsed. All the modern day Marxists literally cannot defend this shitty ideology on it’s own merits. Their worldview is supported entirely on lies, fallacies, and willful ignorance.

You can downvote and seethe all you want, won’t change the reality one bit.

Canada, Greenland, Australia, and Japan should totally recognize Palestine. It’s not like they need to keep pleasing the US now that it’s actively spitting in their face.

Greenland has to abide by Danish policy for foreign relations as its part of the Danish crown. Denmark should recognise it though.

honestly australia is kinda between a rock and a hard place … we have to ride the line between US and china because we’re hugely strategic to china with all our raw resources, with little to no ability to actually defend ourselves because we have such a huge land mass and tiny population (we’re about the size of the US in land mass with a population slightly smaller than texas: imagine if texas alone had to defend the entire US)

we aren’t europe: if we piss off the US we don’t have the money or population to pivot

… also the US has been involved with overturning our elected government twice

that said, we’ve been getting much closer to recognising palestinian recently

Corbyn in the UK ten years ago had a huge groundswell of popular support that at one point looked like carrying Labour to a 1997-style landslide, until he was taken down by an organised campaign of pearl-clutchy disingenuous accusations of anti-semitism over his support for Palestine; a campaign that the neoliberals in his party were all too happy to play along with.

        half true

it has nothing to do with us

not true, Zionism was originally a Christian ideology that originated in Europe and the founders of Israel and its leadership to this day are majority European Jews and see Israel as an extension of Western Civilization

Myanmar seems like an odd gap. A quick search just seems to say Myanmar and Israel have a long diplomatic history and some minor arms sales?

Well Myanmar is run by a military dictatorship that murders, disappears and tortures civillians, and has an ongoing public resistance against it since a few years.

When Iran was ruled by the Shah Israel were best buddies and help arm and train his army and intelligence. Guess what they did: murder, disappear and torture tens of thousands of civillians.

When South Africa was still an Apartheid state, Israel was also good friends with them. Guess what they did…

I’m surprised that there’s so many countries who recognize Palestine. Is this a recent development?
