I love how everyone thinks this is because of DEI and boycotts, and not just because everyone is fucking jobless and inflation is through the roof…

Other stores that aren’t part of this boycott are seeing similar numbers in the reduction of foot-traffic.

I have noticed a big influx of bots saying that boycotting and peaceful protests achieve nothing, which is comical because boycotting have caused the wealthiest person on the planet to lose a massive chunk of his wealth, with more losses piling up every single day.

Just from the Q1 reports, it is clear Tesla is cursed and it is highly unlikely the brand will ever recover.

And while economic downturn is certainly part of it, the boycotts are a significant contributor and it is making Target and Amazon uncomfortable, especially after witnessing what is happening to Tesla.

This is because customers that participate in boycotts are unlikely to ever return.

Target was popular among Latinos and there’s a big outcry among community channels to boycott them. If you are not part of these channels, you are unlikely to see the orchestrated boycotts but I assure you that not only do they exist, but they are highly effective.

Everyone within my personal circle is boycotting Target permanently, that’s 30+ people and their families rejecting Target, and who knows who else they have talked into joining.

It’s all very much personal, and that kind of resolve is not something that corporations can do anything about.

To be fair, that’s valid. - Tesla is definitely suffering from real effects of the boycotts - but I’d argue that the violence being displayed against their owners,is probably enough justification rather than just not buying a Tesla. This isn’t just a boycott, but the cars are being vandalized on a wide scale. Even if I wanted to buy a Tesla right now, I wouldn’t - simply because I wouldn’t want to have to deal with all of the potential violence surrounding them.

This is piss poor journalism. You can’t compare 1 company to another with a drastically different business model. Tell me about foot traffic in other similar stores

They’re primarily comparing Target’s YoY foot traffic with itself.

The Costco comparison six paragraphs in is just added color for the article.

Ok. The economy is garbage. People have the lowest level of economic confidence in decades. No shit foot traffic in retail is down. The Costco comparison adds nothing

Target cancels DEI, foot traffic goes down

Costco doesn’t cancel DEI, foot traffic goes up

Your argument falls flat on its face.

I mean even the article itself says correlation isn’t causation so I think it’s a bit more nuanced than that.

I am curious why Jeff thinks Costco is immune from the economic uncertainty.

Idk about others but most of my “foot traffic” goes to local business and farmers markets these days. So yeah there really isn’t a 1:1 comparison that’s possible bc you do t replace a general store like target with one thing but hundreds

Honestly, those who suck cock are truly some of the best that humanity has to offer, so I’m going to go out on a limb and say objectively that Target does not suck cock.

I mean if you’re a corporation it probably is cuz I don’t know how to imagine that but it’s probably not good. They don’t have mouths after all…
