Okay wtf do elaborate
I am stealing that too
When people say that higher grades don’t make you successful, many don’t realize that that probably means students who sacrificed their performance on school assessments to challenge themselves, work on personal projects and gain experience rather than trying to get a perfect assessment score in school. A portfolio is more important than grades when it comes to applying for jobs.
But don’t they use Portuguese?
I’ve said some personally identifiable information here on my account so babanatin ko if ever it becomes controversial, and there’s a lot of cases where anyone being criticised on reddit are good at tracking the people there and identifying them and making it an issue on Facebook lol. But I’ll DM you if you’re okay with it.
or sunspots
I’m sorry for blowing up on you. It’s just that I feel powerless and I feel like it’s hard to change anything if I do things more directly. I’ve been trying to get people involved but it’s so hard to get the momentum going that it tends to fizzle out (kinda like c/Philippines). I really wanted free internet to be a thing here in my country (not only that, we pay more for lower quality internet cmp to other countries due to underdeveloped infrastructure) so that it would break the monopoly of facebook but I’m not sure if they’re doing their promise. I’m just used to my actions not having an impact unless it was supported by some external circumstance. Like how Lemmy became popular because of an external event.
Apathetic attitude? Not everyone has the privilege of having ever been under an authority figure who actually cares about their job. My university can’t even bother to fix their drainage system, my city has had its reputation dragged in the mud on national TV for its shitty (literally) garbage collection system (btw, I still see NOTHING came out from the publicity), even though people have been complaining about these for months. Do you seriously think they’ll take my opinion seriously? If I try to rally people to my cause, which would most likely be on Facebook, people would just snarkily say I’m overreacting and that I’m a hypocrite for using Facebook (which is the only way I could reach them in the first place). Even when I complained about the drainage system I was being name-called and insulted by someone who thought that making any demands to a school as a student was being entitled and what did I get out of it? Nothing! Do you think the geriatrics at the upper level even care about privacy or information? They still admire Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg goddammit! Have you ever had to really fight for a cause? Because you are painting an unrealistic landscape that I’ve never been able to see my entire life.
It is not feasible unfortunately, and if I were to put that as a complaint, I would most likely be called unhinged, out-of-touch, or trying to discard a perfectly usable system. We can only raise questions and influence people as of now. Besides, the reason why Messenger is popular is because of the freebasics service which allows people to use Messenger for free.
Those types of people who say those things are very self-centered. An anecdote but back when I had no boundaries, there was this “friend” who liked to misgender me, and had unsavory opinions on trans people in general including that one, and when I wasn’t able to interact with them for an extended period of time due to my high workload in school, they took it personally even though they also made no effort of contacting me. Talk about wanting to feel special.
Vulnerable people tend to be the target of abusive ones. They’ll basically reinforce that vulnerable person’s beliefs from their experiences to say they shouldn’t risk anything but to stick with that abusive partner. So they tend to reinforce the focus more on anyone else being oppressive, to create a sense of “why should you bother?” Also those women who care so much about height tend to be assholes. I saw those types from Twitter a long time ago and I would roll their eyes whenever they, at the same time, sexualise asian men or are outspoken about racism even though asian men tend to be shorter. Also one thing that’s almost a parallel to the manosphere are the radfems (or at least they call themselves that way, because whatever they are seems different from what radical feminism is supposed to be). A lot of these radfems tend to just only see men in a bioessentialist or utilitarian way, because they think men are incapable of genuine connection. And it too, is a pipeline of sorts (which I encountered firsthand through Pinterest) because they start with women voicing out real concerns, to “rule of thumbs”, to defending the use of generalised language such as “men are…”, until they become prejudiced and start seeing individual men as only a part of a greater whole for this perceived collective identity of a “man”.
Can’t it be any more clear to everyone?
I’m pretty much forced to use Facebook and Messenger because of school. Some teachers will grade you only if you upload your work and tag them on Facebook, sometimes you have to repost or like videos because your project is a video and there’s a group competition based on those metrics. Messenger is the default mode of communication between students and teachers, as well as a way to contact people for your graded surveys.
I know this is a late reply but it feels wrong to not make a response at all. Thank you for putting in the effort to share other people’s experience of the same thing. I am aware that the policies had unsavory implications, though I wanted to bring more awareness especially to fellow filipinos.
The ones most important to me are:
tagging features, tagging hotmaps for communities, search by tag, comments from crossposts is combined to the viewer (there’s a divider to show which community),
when someone posts from a certain instance like beehaw you get a reminder about their community standards, user flairs
less resources needed to load stuff (great for third-worlders like me), post and comment subscriptions, feeds (something similar to a multireddit)
topic categories (do note that topic ≠ community) like Regional > Asia > Philippines in which each topic category shows all posts made by communities in the category. For example if you are in Topic: Regional you get posts from all regional communities, in Topic: Asia you get posts from all communities based on Asia.
Not Vegan, But: Probably needs a rest day in between workout days, adequate sleep or a calorie surplus. If he’s up for it, he should get his nutrient levels checked. There’s also this problem where people on the internet set unrealistic expectations of how fast your gains should be.
Yeah, I just made the switch to piefed some days ago. Isn’t there a saying don’t put all your eggs in one basket? My first accounts were on kbin and fmhy.ml, but they’re not around anymore. I made the switch to lemmy.world, then learned about piefed and since I like the features it had I made the switch to it.
There’s being neurodivergent too. My mom said I was a hothead when I was a young kid. I have ADHD btw.
“Spectacle” (char lang)
Some months ago my mother was on a work trip so I had the house to myself. One night I watched some yt videos on TV using SmartTube. Usually I would put my glasses on the chair of the sofa. The next day I was looking for my glasses but couldn’t find them anywhere, and normally my vision is functional, but from where I sat in class I couldn’t see the blackboard well. And that morning I had classes. Eventually after a while I gave up and thought I’d just find them eventually, so I started cooking my breakfast.
I would like to clarify that the distance between the table and my kitchen is just less than two meters. And I looked for my glasses on the table already. Okay so, I had two parts of my breakfast. Once I put my first part on the table I then turned around to cook an egg (the second part). I took the egg from the wok and when I turned to put it on the first part of my breakfast I suddenly saw my glasses just in front of the plate of my first part of the meal. It was a literal jumpscare. Idk how that was possible unless it somehow fell from the ceiling!
“Running Shadow”
This one happened years ago when I was young. I invited my friend over to draw stuff together. Before that I saw a running shadow outside of my bedroom from my window. Now I remember that it didn’t disappear in just a blink, I had the chance to see it clearly. Some point later, my friend arrived, I never told her about the shadow. At some point my friend looked at the side of my house and she said she saw a running shadow that made no sound. I asked her about its height (relative to the window) and it matched what I saw.
