  • You’re taking a reasonable position and pushing beyond it’s reasonable limits.

that is what things like the SPCA and law enforcement are for.

SPCA is a non-profit society. I don’t think they have the resources to hunt down puppy mills actively trying to subvert prohibition. RCMP is a national police force. I’m fairly certain puppy mills would fall near the bottom of their priorities list.

Prohibition never works as a substitute for regulation. Look at alcohol, drugs, and prostitution. Not only does prohibition utterly fail at eliminating these practices, it demonstrably exposes people to exploitation and harm.

Prohibiting animal breeding would just mean that the people who chose to do it would have no incentive to ensure their animals aren’t subjected to cruelty or harm.

  • I think we’ll see the wave function flip soon enough. Some young people are actively seeking the analogue world that they are too young to remember.

Schools are realizing hand written assignments do have a place in the digital age. School admins are finally stepping up and restricting cellphone usage during class times.

Parents are realizing ipads and youtube are infinitely worse than the saturday morning cartoons that filled older generations screen time.

I have a hunch we’re going to see a hard swing back to analogue tech like cash, paper & pen, and face to face activities.

  • How conservatives hate a party that keeps buying them pipelines is beyond me.

But looking at the Fairy Creek resistance I think Carney is underestimating how many people are willing to physically fight to protect the environment. The RCMP have really only been dealing with non-violent protestors. People who believed the government would step in and do what’s right. When that faith is gone all bets are off.

A lot of British Columbians are looking south at Washington to California and wondering if we have more in common with them than Ontario… and Carney is certainly not helping.

  • I’m also an NDP voter that voted LPC over CPC. I knew we wouldn’t get Value(s) Carney, but I do believe that if anyone is going to shift capitalism in a better direction it would be him.

As a former bouncer I completely disagree that silence is a sign of weakness or subservience. That’s just good tact. Never argue with an idiot, they’ll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Elbows Up doesn’t mean you should draw a penalty. You’re supposed to hit them hard and get away with it.

As far as the DST. I find it interesting that a tax we never collected is being framed as a loss we deserve compensation for.

A month ago I thought bills C-2 & C-5 were overreach, and their lack of oversight definitely is… I wrote several letters to that effect. But given the continuation of Trumps annexation rhetoric, I now recognize those bills were designed for a political environment that is still burgeoning.

Based on Trumps usage of ICE I believe it’s inevitable that the USA will use domestic crossings to affect some form of hybrid war against Canada. Russia & China will certainly occupy northern Canada if we don’t rapidly expand our national infrastructure.

These threats, I believe, do justify deprioritizing environmental concerns, to a degree.

I think the silver lining is that Carney’s energy expansion in to oil/gas is not mutually exclusive with expanding renewable energy.

I also sold mortgages for a short time and saw the industry change more in 24 months than 24 years. I agree that the least harmful economic solution to housing is to freeze housing prices where they are until cost of living and supply normalize. The alternative of housing prices drop would have a net negative effect. The CMHC in 2014 & 15 made major changes to reduce Canadian borrowing power to avoid a post mortgage crisis of mass defaults like what we saw in the USA.

I think the world is too volatile right now to expect concrete plans that aren’t heavily hedged. Carney is playing the game correctly by holding Canada’s cards close and not telling his bluffs.

  • Nah all good. I don’t think my bro is full on fascist. I asked him directly and he acted incredulous. He’s always gotten off on the being different kick; albeit out of spite. We were raised in a proto-maga church environment. Now that he perceives Christianity as anti-establishment he’s got the koolaid on iv.

Him and my sister are how I know MAGAs don’t listen to trump, or engage anything for that matter, directly. They’ve all been conditioned by their church pastor to get their opinions from someone else. That’s why we’re seeing this phenomenon of MAGAs waiting for their opinion on every breaking story. They don’t seek knowledge, or do a single ounce of fact checking.

Some people will only learn the hard way, if that.
