Niels Bohr famously dissolved the medal he got for his Nobel Price for chemistry in acid when the Nazis invaded his home country of Denmark, to prevent it from falling into the Nazis’ hands.

Unlike him, the most recent recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize of all things, who shall not be named here, because she doesn’t deserve being named, handed her medal to a deranged megalomaniac and fascist wannabe dictator.

For giving her medal to Trump?

Yes. Unless Trump gained a mind control machine since last we checked.

Yep, keeping him from humiliating himself with a token was definitely worth endangering herself and her country’s people.

That medal means nothing in his hands and everyone knows it. I can’t believe we’re pretending she wasn’t coerced publicly and that a “mind control machine” is needed

What danger to her country has been reduced by giving (or attempting to give) Trump the medal?

Fuck, man, she’s a politician and a grown-ass woman. She makes decisions, and she’s fucking responsible for them. She started her bootlicking for Trump upon receiving the award. I don’t know why this is controversial.

Regardless of whether you think it was a good move or a bad move, it was her fucking choice, and people are right to ascribe agency to her in judging it.

And I don’t know how it’s controversial that a piece of metal is worth the risk of a dictator doing whatever he wants in retaliation. You ask what danger there is… this is like asking what a mob boss threat is worth. Giving him that literally changes nothing except it makes Trump look pathetic and desperate on the world stage. No one thinks he earned the award except the people who already think he’s God regardless of what he does.

What are you talking about? She literally asked the US to invade. She has no interest in protecting her country. She hosted a webinar with execs and said if they get the US to invade she’ll make sure they all get fat oil contracts.

She was literally calling for war.

There seems to be some limit to how far you can go in order to democratize your country. 🤷

Not sure what you mean or why we’re getting downvoted. The physical token of the Nobel Peace prize means nothing in the hands of a thief. Not sure why people are pretending she had much choice in this. The toddler would’ve certainly thrown a tantrum had she refused and it’s almost certainly not worth it.

If anything, handing it over makes trump look bad for not only wanting it, but stealing it.

Just like Lemmy to get butthurt about peace prize recipients doing peace prizey things with their peace prize medal in a bid to bring a democratically elected coalition to their elected position in their country.

    Post needs text alternative.

Images of text break much that text alternatives do not. Losses due to image of text lacking alternative:

    • usability
      • we can’t quote the text without pointless bullshit like retyping it or OCR
      • text search is unavailable
      • the system can’t
        • reflow text to varied screen sizes
        • vary presentation (size, contrast)
        • vary modality (audio, braille)
    • accessibility
      • lacks semantic structure (tags for titles, heading levels, sections, paragraphs, lists, emphasis, code, links, accessibility features, etc)
      • some users can’t read the image due to lack of alt text (markdown image description)
      • users can’t adapt the text for dyslexia or vision impairments
      • systems can’t read the text to them or send it to braille devices
    • searchability: the “text” isn’t indexable by search engine in a meaningful way
    • fault tolerance: no text fallback if
      • image breaks
      • image host is geoblocked due to insane regulations.

Contrary to age & humble appearance, text is an advanced technology that provides all these capabilities absent from images.
