• In the same vein, it wasnt that long ago that here on Lemmy someone was giving me shit because I won’t throw my Harry Potter movies away. Like, it’s not gonna take the money back from Rowling if I do that. 🤷‍♂️

I got into a spat on lemmy a while ago when I said Rowling wouldn’t care about people burning her books as she already had the money for them.

It is way more effective gifting them to people who would have bought new if they did not received a used one…

If there are less books in the field, the value of the books rises, which in turn allows to sell new ones more expensive as well.

When WOTC started to fuck up D&D and people were talking about chucking their books away I was encouraging them to mail them back to WOTC instead.

If you’re going to protest a company you have to figure out how to cost them money.

It costs a company money to process mail at their place if business. Not like, crazy amounts but someone has to open the box, see what’s in it and figure out why it’s there. It’s probably going to cost them at least $2-$3 in time.

It’s far from an effective way to cost them money, but it’s $2 more than throwing a book away at your house.
