A 21-year old anti-ICE protester has been left permanently blinded in California after a Department of Homeland Security agent shot him in the face with a nonlethal round at point-blank range on Friday.
Kaden Rummler can be seen on video rushing to help a fellow protester at Civic Center Plaza in Santa Ana before being shot by a federal agent. He crumples to the ground in a heap, covering his face before an officer drags him away by his hoodie. Rummler’s aunt said he was left with a fractured skull and shards of plastic, glass, and metal stuck all throughout his eyes and face, and would have died if not for the six hours of surgery he went through.
“That could have cost him his life,” Jeri Rees told the Los Angeles Times. “But now, for the next six weeks, he can’t sneeze or cough because it could do a lot of damage.… The other officers were mocking him, saying, ‘You’re going to lose your eye.’”
These monsters must pay. I have faith that we will come out the other side of this somehow. And there will be HELL to pay. The GOP fascists who applauded their cult leader’s promises of “retribution” have yet to learn the meaning of that word. And they will be educated in spectacular fashion.
Sadly history shows that no matter the evil, the average footsoldier does not get what’s coming for them.

What will happen is the same old, now isn’t the time for vengeance but healing and moving forward crap.
I feel that the only way to proceed in this world is with the faith that it will be made right. Otherwise what is the point in trying? We should all lay down and give up?
Nobody said anything about not having faith that things will be made right. They just said not to look to Democrats to do it.
Oh I don’t argue for giving up, I argue for holding them accountable yourself instead of relying on a spineless or complicit leadership class.
There is faith in an actual project of doing something concrete, and then there is faith in it “somehow” going to be ok.
One is constructive, the other is just sticking your head in the sand and helping the fascists.
Desperation and anger is needed to topple fascists. Complacency created by a belief in heavenly intervention is not.
You and I will. This isn’t even a fight if you look at numbers. The most important part is building the initial resistance that is successful enough to bring the rest of the inactive bystanders to join us. Every extra person that is a part of that matters 1000x over right now.
Your state government has abandoned you and the “papers please” will be at your door one day. Better to standup now before that happens.
Everyone is staring at the car crash right now. They are all not reacting and wondering what to do. But when that first person goes to help, everyone else moves too. You just need to realize that you are the person with enough knowledge to know that YOU are that first person. We have to do what’s hard. We have to be that first person that runs alone to the car. But, know that many will follow.
I’d like to have faith but I’m surrounded pacifists and people who believe voting will fix things.
I like to believe that too. But I also think because we always seem to compare to WW2. The clear worst people lost.
But, when looking at human history the odds of that type of win are low. Native American genocide, Armenian Genocide, the Nakba, etc.
I will try to use this a motivation to fight and resist. That’s it’s vital for all of us to resist. When it could be seen as doomerism. Doomerism is a means of making you not act. So, I will not do that. Let’s all go get ourselves armed and touch some grass.
