A video reportedly filmed by the federal agent who shot and killed Renée Nicole Good in Minneapolis earlier this week was released on Friday by a conservative Minnesota outlet whose most prominent reporter is married to the city’s former police union head.

Alpha News—notable in part for its sympathetic coverage of Derek Chauvin, the Minneapolis police officer convicted in 2021 of murdering George Floyd—has since Wednesday published a flurry of articles including “ICE shooting in Minneapolis: Minnesota attorney explains how presumed innocence has been ignored again” and “REPORT: Woman killed by ICE agent was member of ‘ICE Watch’ group working to disrupt immigration arrests.”

Vice President JD Vance has shared the Alpha News video multiple times as of early Friday evening, writing in one post, “What the press has done in lying about this innocent law enforcement officer is disgusting. You should all be ashamed of yourselves.” The Trump administration has maintained that Good was a “violent rioter” who “weaponized her vehicle” in order to carry out “domestic terrorism.”

Yet the fact that the video from the shooter’s perspective was released at all, and with such speed, is remarkable—as is who it was leaked to.

“If you can’t see his feet, it looks like the car hit him” - their logic

Yeah, people hit by cars famously keep their footing and are stable enough to accurately discharge a firearm. Meanwhile, he shouldn’t be walking in front of the car, full stop. So yeah, it’s damning but only against his case.

When I’m walking in a parking lot and a car fails to yield to me. If they are close enough for me to smack their car, I do. Gives them a little scare.

I’ve been in more dangerous situations walking into a grocery store. And I never felt the need to assassinate the drivers. I have WANTED to on occasion. But, somehow I have enough restraint to not to.

If this ICE agent was protecting himself and his fellow officers. Well, then I think I deserve a medal of honor or whatever the civilian equivalent is.

They really do. I’ve already had this argument on Lemmy. The main sticking point is a vehicle being a deadly weapon. And yes, it can be. But making a non-violent person fear for their life doesn’t, or at least shouldn’t, automatically give you the right to shoot them if they are in a car and you intentionally step in front of it.

That’s always been my sticking point. The agent that shot her is the one who put himself in danger of being stuck by the vehicle. She didn’t go out of her way to try to run him over. That’s seems plain as day from the video to me. But not to them.

A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is assumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty. As such, a prosecutor is required to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the person committed the crime if that person is to be convicted.

‘Proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt’

I don’t need a jury or judge or prosecutor to tell me what my own eyes have seen. That man shot her. Beyond a reasonable doubt. He did it. The only semantics here are if he can get away with it under some stupid immunity rule. Even if he somehow gets off the charges, he killed that woman.

The video if anyone wants it.

Not sure it looks as provoking as they want it to, I’m guessing the other woman’s video might also come out.

This is one of the other views: https://lemmy.world/post/41292157

She backed up before she drove off. Not the intention of someone who is trying to hit you.

Edit: Also Reuters has a good write up on angles, people, and views.
