It does cause you to confuse ‘conservative ideas’ with the alt-right fascist ideas of the MAGA movement.
What the person was saying, before being dogpiled, is that there are people that will blindly attack and harass anyone who has any conservative ideas. That statement seems to be proven by the response.
What they said is correct, Lemmy is a left-leaning space. Lemmy also has bots, because it is social media in 2026. The people who will stop at nothing to harass people who share conservative ideas also seem to be present given the 55 downvotes on a comment who’s only crime was expressing a different viewpoint.

Conservatisim is an entire constellation of political, social and cultural customs. I’m not here to promote any of those ideas or get into slapfights about who is more moral than who.
The point I was making was that there are obviously people here who are willing to attack someone for even hinting that they may be conservative.
You can see that evidenced by the fact that a person made an objectively true statement, but it was framed in a way that could be read that they’re conservative and because of that they’re spammed with downvotes and accused of supporting child rapists.

I feel it’s safe to assume that conservatives voted for Trump. If a small minority did not, they’re extremely quiet. It’s not unreasonable to assume people vaguely spouting “conservative ideas” without the slightest ability to discuss them in any depth are MAGA folk that can’t think of a way to defend Trump, so they just have to portray themselves as persecuted. It’s not the “liberals and leftists” that are the problem for that guy, if he hates Trump. If he hates Trump, the problem for him is conservatives. Seeing as how he only has criticism for the group he supposedly agrees with (on this issue) and NOT for the group that strongly supports Trump makes it seem to me that he’s a MAGA conservative.
