The photo is a blue van in dark parking lot. On the side of the van it says “Free DDR5 RAM.”

My slop-sense was going off like crazy too, but I couldn’t put my finger on it. There’s something really confusing to my brain about the wheels/tires on the van, the backends of the cars on the right, and the light sources, but the vanishing point seems mostly ok?

For that matter, the text also feels weird, but I chocked that up to photoshop since AI usually can’t do text that well.

Yeah, my sloppy-sense was through the roof, too. The best I can relay what is putting me off, is the ‘discreetness’ of it. Almost like every pixel was specifically painted. Lighting and focus are also super weird.

But yeah, I think we’re getting past the point where I can tell.

You have to really look into this one. Now that I’ve slept and looked at it more, there are a lot of other things I can see that solidify this as gen AI. It took me a bit to get there, though, and I only had a vague thought that it even was at first.

Now couple this with Flock’s rushed out nightmare and the idea of arresting people for pre-crimes Minority Report-style and the dystopian future is now the present.

But yeah, I think we’re getting past the point where I can tell.

I think people like you and I will still have that sense going off, but it’s going to be harder to put into words why we feel that way, and will start to leak into our ideas on real photos. Regular folks already voted how they voted (and I’m not just talking about the USA), they will not ever take the time to analyze a photo like this, just like they never take the time to corroborate what the talking heads say with real data.

While I fully agree with you, I don’t really fret the masses being manipulated. It’s shitty and scary, but time immemorial we’ve been sewing these threads among each other. In a pretty recent post someone outlined that any time there is a new form of communication, we get a pretty big wave of manipulation (printing press --> reforming the catholic church / broadcast TV --> 2. World War). We got this current batch of Brexiteers and Trumpists because the internet makes for amazing echochambers. This will just be an escalation of that (yeah, not as reassuring as I’d hoped it would be).

I’m more worried about me being (mis-)led by my nose. I think I’m losing my edge.

The shadow of the van feels… Off to me. Like yeah, at a certain angle you won’t see the slope of the windshield, but I don’t think the light is low enough for that?

Nah, background details make sense and the interior of the van makes sense

I think at worst it’s just a good ol Photoshop

The van itself doesn’t make sense. It’s a weird mashup of Ford and Chevy styling and details, with a bit of Dodge thrown in for good measure. It’s actually pretty plausible and very realistic looking but that’s not a Chevy van (nor is it a Ford or a Dodge with a badge transplant). Some thing with all the cars in the background. They are all very plausible but I can’t actually ID any of them.

Either someone has been busy with Photoshop, or the AI stuff is getting scary good.

If you’re right, it might be scary good, I’m not a car guy so I couldn’t tell one manufacturers body from another like that.

But it makes sense for me as in everything I expect looks in place and proper. If they’ve finally figured out how to nail those details…

          We’re f’d lmao

have you seen the generated stuff by that new google banana nano whatever model? we’re fucked. just looking a bit closer on the details and obvious telltales isnt enough anymore.

I think it’s the parking spots/squares and the orientation of the background vehicles that doesn’t sit right in my head. The spots aren’t equal, randomly placed under the van. Single line rather than 2 rows? Then how the background cars are parked seems odd.

I think the base picture is a car dealership. It could still be AI, but the original base picture is probably still a dealership.
