It’s a performance. A dog and pony show. A cargo cult facsimile of “press access”. They’re only keeping up appearances until they don’t have to anymore. As in, once everyone has dismissed it as a farce, they can stop with the farce. As long as there are too many remaining who try to take it seriously, who would get people riled up if they just stopped even bothering to PRETEND to have press access, they will keep pretending for the sake of convenience. We all know what’s really happening here. A tourniquet has been secured around this limb and the blood flow has been terminated, and they’re just waiting for it to die, rot, and fall off on its own.
