Doing the 4th round of laundry at the moment. My old washer broke down 3 weeks ago and the new thing had some delivery issues. Gave the delivery guys 20€ tip for carrying a fucking washing machine on their backs up to the 3rd floor!(we don’t have an elevator). And the old thing back down, absolute monsters.

Carried on their backs? Do they not use carrying straps? It makes moving appliances a breeze.

I was suprised as well, since there are very serious laws about work safety with this stuff. Insurers don’t like it either. But it was due to the narrow staircase, they couldn’t use the barrow so they decied to powerlift it in record time.

When I had my washer and dryer delivered, the delivery guys had chest harnesses on. They just clipped the straps on and walked up the stairs like it weighed nothing.

What kind did you get, and do you recommend it?

My washing machine is from 1997 and is old-school mechanical all the way. No issues (yet), but I need to be prepared.

AEG LR7fl841ex (dschörman), old one was a Bauknecht from ~2005.

It has some nice features, is very eco friendly and super quiet for the price range. It’s a middle-class machine with only 42l/cycle, the lowest I could find in store. Plus 10 year warranty on the motor.

I think at least in Germany you can’t go wrong with any of the white goods sold by the 4 or 5 big firms, they all produce in the same factories (at least Bosch and Siemsn do). And a washer is a washer, it was already over-engineered 10 years ago. The most important part for me was the energy efficiency and water consumption.
