Back in my day, we used our teeth.
Right?!?
I mean we still can. I remember some bricks being chewed up like a dog went at it. But, nope, it was just wee little me.
But even 20+ years ago one was included in pretty much every medium sized set, so there wasn’t really a need to buy them individually.
I never got one in a single set as a kid.
Even with the old Sandcrawler set you didn’t get a separator. Not once in all my years buying sets in the early-mid 2000s was there a brick separator included. You had to buy that shit separately, and the stores I went to never had them in person, so it was like something you had to order online.
Now, they give them to you with pretty much any set of over 1,000 pieces or so.
This is like one of those stories where someone finally realizes that they grew up poor.
Same. I’ve never seen these until now. They sure would’ve been pretty helpful though!
Lol, there were 2 in the scuba diver set I got as a kid.
Is it wrong I just hand my daughter a kitchen knife.
Absolutely.
The real question is… what did y’all call them? My family’s nickname was:
Brick-unstick
Ever since the Yellow Submarine set, we call them the Yoko Ono, because it can break up the Beatles.
I never knew these things existed when I was a kid.
I only knew about them because my parents would pick up their catalogues since we lived in the sticks and while stores had Lego sets, they didn’t have a lot and mostly were the cheaper, smaller ones. It was the only way I ever got Technic sets, too; I still never see those in a physical store.
That’s how I found about them as well. Love the catalogues.
weren’t they included with various kits? I dont recall ever specifically buying those
Apparently, they started giving them away sometime in the 2000’s. As a kid, 80’s-90’s, they did not give them away.
I got a bunch of the green ones for free in the 2000’s.
Yeah, perhaps in the 2000’s but when I was growing up was in the 80’s-90’s. And the only place I ever saw them was in a magazine for $1.99. But that’s just my experience.
That was also my experience. Never included with a set, hell never even saw one in person. Only knew they existed because they were shown in the mail order catalogs.
I’m sure they came with something. Maybe the robotics kits or other unthemed kits that don’t have a specific design and are meant to be taken apart. I have like 5 of them and I’m certain I never bought any separately
Hahaha!! I love it!! We called them seperators. We were pretty much by the book. 🙄
