The capitulation of Senate Democrats in ending the government shutdown without healthcare concessions has sparked outrage. Calls for new leadership and primary challenges are growing. The fight for a Democratic Party that truly fights back continues.

Like 90% of the Dems in Congress need to go. Replacing Schumer will be a start but not nearly enough.

Could you imagine a government with 30% of the politicians being Independent like Bernie? The corporations wouldnt know who to bribe, politicians would actually need to worry about what voters think. 100% Independent would be horrific for corporations … and exactly how the founding fathers designed the constitution.

James Madison’s entire reason for creating the Senate was to protect the “opulent minority” (landholders) from the majority (everyone else). The constitution was always designed to protect capital as its prime directive.

I knew Schumer was gonna fuck it up somehow. The last few days I was finally starting to get a little hope he grew a spine and actually listened to DNC constituents only to have this blow up. We gave up effective air traffic, SNAP benefits, furloughed and laid off government workers for nothing in return after all these weeks. If his constituents don’t demand a new rep after this then what hope do we have in the Senate for the foreseeable future?

Perhaps we’ve ended up where they’re all corporate shills because if you aren’t a corporate shill and you can make change happen, you end up dead.

Edit: Or they attempt to denaturalize and deport you…first

Edit: To be clear, i fear for Zohran Mamdani’s life if this stupid deportation thing fails.

The only path to effective opposition in the United States is through the destruction of the Democrat party. It can’t be reformed.

And yet, how? This is a problem that’s older than most of us.

I’m tired of hearing people say what needs to happen like they’ve just rubbed a magic lamp. The reality is that they’re are still scores of people okay with this shit.

The best we can do at this stage is get a progressive to start leading them. I don’t know if we’ll get this, but people are finally very angry at these clowns, so maybe.

Exactly. Ideological flip. Democrats and Republicans were firmly on opposite side of ideological divide before they switched.

Third party and independents used to be more prominent in congress and senate up until the early 20th century. I think mass corporate media brainwashed people to think within allowable and carefully curated discourse that they can only elect Democrats or Republicans. Hence, manufactured consent.

I feel like the better option would be to target the Republican party, since social inertia is gonna mean a few cycles of losing to whoever we don’t destroy first. I don’t wanna have to dismantle capitalism and christo-nationalism at the same time.

We replace it with a blue collar “libertarian” party that’s just socialism with all the jargon replaced with country songs.

They’ve had enough seats to fix these problems plenty of times, but chose not to. They’ve had majorities twice that I can remember, and spent the entire time building out the systems that the current administration is using.

So once again I ask: How is it helping to have more seats?

Yeah well I disagree, but the alternative is to have less seats. Which we have now.

Is now good? If so, carry on.

Not when Dems always have the needed number of turncoats no matter what the situation!

Need two, don’t worry, two will fall on the sword and make it (not) happen!

Need 8? 2 who are retiring and 6 who don’t have a re election coming up will make it (not) happen!

Anything to stop too much progress from being made!

These decrepit motherfuckers are just an extension of the Democratic party and they’re doing exactly what they’re supposed to. We need to abandon this party and commit to building a new one - even if it means Republicans win some more elections for a cycle or two.

Cuomo did not do well, but I was surprised he did even as well as he did. It IS a beacon of light that at least one of these pieces of crap got replaced by someone who seems to actually care about something outside of themselves.

Cuomo is one of those politicians whose appeal completely baffles me. He comes across as self-serving to the core. He is exactly the kind of opportunistic, power-obsessed figure people usually say they can’t stand in politics. What’s the draw? The draw must be limited, since NYC rejected him in favor of Mamdani twice, but still.

I genuinely don’t know how that makes any sense in response to what I just said.

I’m over here fucking despairing about being betrayed AGAIN by the group that’s supposed to be NOT Nazis, having my life fucked in another new and novel way, and I’m licking boots? Whose fucking boots am I licking?

Make that bullshit accusation make sense.

Again, justify that accusation. You don’t know a thing about me. I’ll give you some information you don’t deserve, and the only thing I want to see in response is either an apology or a real argument explaining what your problem actually is.

I am married to someone who has an autoimmune issue. Health insurance for my family is mandatory. I get that insurance for her through a job I hate so much I fantasize about getting into a wreck on the way into work because then I wouldn’t have to go. Together we developed a plan that would allow me to do a career change that would allow me to switch careers into something that DOESN’T make me dread damn near every waking moment. A plan that relied on the ACA as an insurance stopgap. That just got taken away. Stolen away. Given to Nazis in exchange for NOTHING.

What about that sounds like “bootlicking” to you? What makes it so unbelievable that I might be upset? Explain yourself, apologize, or just have the decency to stop responding altogether.

Edit: Initial draft was uncivil. Cleaned the language up some, not entirely, while maintaining the substance of the initial response.
