Man, that reminds that… while Christopher Hitchens was not a perfect person…

He aruged that waterboarding was fine, volunteered to get waterboarded… and then did a total 180, nope that shit is absolutely torture and anyone who defends it is a barbarian.

    Believe Me, It’s Torture

What more can be added to the debate over U.S. interrogation methods, and whether waterboarding is torture? Try firsthand experience. The author undergoes the controversial drowning technique, at the hands of men who once trained American soldiers to resist—not inflict—it.

… try and imagine literally any politician doing something like … publically admitting you were completely wrong.

Muchless volunteering to go through what they force on others.

I think the only reason Republicans still win US elections is that your average American is stupid enough to think that waterboarding is an extreme sport.

Still waiting for all those talking heads to try out waterboarding themselves so they can prove how gentle it is.

I’d love for this to be the case, because it would imply the problem could be educated out of them.

Instead, I believe, based on a mountain of evidence being in what the actual talking points of the republicans are, that people are instead so much more focused on hurting the people they believe should be hurt, that they are willing to make ridiculous, absurd, obviously poor trade sacrifices in order to hurt those people.

I think that they basically majority feel this way, until they specifically are hurt, and then in those situations, its not like their viewpoints have changed, except that they don’t want to be hurt themselves.

To me, this is the only theory that makes sense and explains everything, like even how some marginalized people like many latin people (such as cubans) support the regime.

They believe themselves to be better than their neighbours and think their neighbours deserve pain. Only when they themselves, personally, experience that they, infact, will never be accepted as the ingroup, do they actually have a temporary change of heart.

Unfortunately, for all of these people to have that temporary change of heart, so many would be dead it wouldn’t make a difference.

This is just one of the many reasons its wasted effort to try to convert maga people, and makes much more sense to try to wake up the people with voter apathy.

Cuban-Americans are very split politically. Actually, every Latino nationality has varying political belief patterns when it comes to voting in the USA.

Older Cubans tend to be conservative because they were driven out by Castro and the Republicans were more aggressive toward Castro, also, some were rightwingers in Cuba and many of them rather terrible people and they naturally like to carry their ideology over from their homeland.

Their children do not vote the same way as much, their grandchildren are majority on the other end.

See, if Kamala Harris had posted this, she’d have garnered a much better response. On Lemmy, at any rate. This is a far more appropriate tribute to the man’s legacy.

You paid for all that with your taxes! You aren’t better than him no matter how much you pretend!

That’s the blunt honest truth American don’t want to admit. Just like they don’t admit they aren’t giving it their all to go against things today.

If American can’t admit that their absolutely no hope for america. You can’t build a solid foundation on a lie that goes against reality.

And that goes for me too!

no american is going to heaven.

Let’s face it our money and hand have blood on them… But we consume bullshit lifestyles and entertainment to escape from that reality. And that escapism is literally pedalled to us for the specific purpose to not fully participate in the true game of life that happens.

Americans think they can vote their way out of the evil they fund. It’s like a culture of addicts. Once people detox from that american lifestyle you just kind of see “damn that was really fucked up”. And it’s not even just America… It’s like a first world ego thing.

Uh what? I don’t think we get to choose if we want to pay taxes or what our specific dollars go to… Do you want us to literally go to Guantanamo and beat up the generals? I don’t understand your point.
