Not sure how you think SF writing works. Writers frequently consult research scientists to get an educated prediction of the future.
I’d say Star Trek tends to be “above average”, especially when it considers how people might interact with technology in the future.
…though i do hope star trek’s wrong about a near-apocalyptic world war coming before world peace/unification
