Prime Minister Mark Carney said negotiations were progressing until Ontario’s anti-tariff ad aired. Two sources with knowledge of the talks said the Americans had warned Canadians “for months” that the Ontario premier’s comments were troubling to the Trump administration.
That’s exactly what Carney is doing. I watched a few of his statements while attending ASEAN and he repeatedly used the unpredictability of the US as justification for why a renewed relationships with everyone else are needed. He made that point bidirectionally because those countries are also on the receiving end of Trump’s bullshit.
