In home country I was physicist. In America, I am door dash
Whoah, whoah, whoah! Who uses a period as the notation for ‘to the’ in scientific notation? Like, I’d be fine with e, or E, because of calculator use, but “.”???
yeah i demand carats or better
It’s astounding how consistently bad kfc and taco bell are. Pizza Hut gets an out cause you expect it for pizza but yum foods are the woooorrrrrst
Taco bell on Michigan?
I wasted enough time at Taco Bell I started turning down those orders unless the tip was really good
The orders of crunchxenon-124 supreme?
I switched to the earn by time thing on Dasher because of the waits at Taco bells. It’s insane. I spent an hour waiting on two orders the other day, one of which was 3 cheese wraps and a Baja blast, and the other was just like some fucking tacos and a burrito. It was absolutely unreasonable. But hey, dash by time, I got paid like 15 bucks for standing there scrolling through Lemmy
“earn by time” my brother in christ we call that being an hourly employee. That’s wild that they have the option to switch between the 2 only for when it’s more profitable for the company to do one or the other
Oh it is absolutely a rip-off, even moreso than a normal job. Plus calculating in gas, mileage, wear and tear, higher insurance premiums, and a 1099 to pay taxes at the end of the year in a lump sum instead of receiving a refund… It’s fucked all around. But right now, desperation is the name of the game.
Do you still keep 100% of the tip?
Doordash has repeatedly been caught stealing tips
And when they’re not stealing tips, they’re paying the lowest base on good tipping orders.
15 mile delivery with a really good tip? … $2 base pay.
I did that a time or two when I hadn’t Dashed in a while. It worked as a way to my numbers up. I also got around $15/hour. That wasn’t great to me because at that time I was typically getting at least $20/hour and trying for more than $25. But it was harder to get those good orders when I hadn’t done it in a few months. It’s been about a year since I’ve Dashed; have they made it worse for drivers in that time?
Not sure; I just started doing it about 2 weeks. It’s my only source of income right now. In the town I’m in, I can typically make 20-30 dollars in a night (4ish hours), earn by time isn’t available here. But in Knoxville, I can make between 1-2 hundred in a night in the same amount of time. It just takes a 45 minute drive to get there
Oh wow, that’s pretty decent pay in Knoxville! Tough to add 90 minutes of round trip travel on top of that, though. I wish you the best in that, and hope you’re able to find some steadier work as well. I kind of enjoyed it but being away from my wife and kid in the evening weighed on me after a while.
It’s pretty decent! It’s not what I’d choose to be doing, but honestly I like it. If I were in a vehicle they comped some of the repairs on, and not worried about the 1099 at the end of the year, I’d be cool with doing it full time.
You might see if “Shop and Deliver” orders are available in your area (Should be under “Preferences” in the app). We tend to do more shopping than food orders, and tend to make more in our area (and there’s no waiting for shitty restaurants). If I could turn off food delivery and just do shopping I would.
It can be smaller trips like Walgreens or CVS , lots of Dollar General, and even larger stores (with larger orders) like Target, Food Lion, or Aldi.
I’ve gone to the taco bell nearest to me twice in the 6 or so years I’ve lived here. Both times, I waited at least an hour. One time in particular, I got stuck in the drive through for nearly 2. Their reviews over the years show things haven’t changed. I’m not sure why it takes that long to put the same four or five ingredients together, but the taco bell a bit further away doesn’t have this problem.
Every time I’ve had Taco Bell I’ve gotten explosive diarrhea after.
Never had this issue with Taco Bell myself. Dunkin Donuts on the other hand…
Dairy queen has this effect too, I’ve noticed. The burgers and stuff more than the ice cream.
Unless you take an XL blizzard to the face. Which I have done. And will do again.
Well this is Lemmy shitpost, so you’ve come to the right place!
I just took a shit.
was taco bell also included?
Not this time
Delayed input, immediate output!
The DMV would like to have a word, but you gotta schedule an appointment first…
In Oklahoma, to get your drivers license you need to be in line at the DMV by about 4 am. If you aren’t in line by 6, you aren’t getting a test today. (This is absolutely so amazing if you are a young adult trapped in a sexually and physically abusive household, and can’t drive yourself to the DMV!)
Don’t you love “small government” red states?
The DMV near me was horrid (three or four hour waits just to be told I’m missing a random, but critical, document and will have to try again) until they started doing appointments. Now I talk to a person within minutes of my appointment time. No haste, no fuss, in and out. 11/10 - Will DMV again.
I’m outta my DMV at faster then Taco Bell. I just recently had to re-up my registration and get my real ID. Took only 5 minutes each. My last trip to Taco Bell was like 45 minutes.
You fucky lucker, it took me almost 2 hours last time I had to go to the DMV…
Ha! Im lucky enough to live a mile away from it. I head in around 4-4:30 and there’s literally no one there.
The prices for taco bell, have gone through the roof…
But like a year or two ago, the waits became so terrible its what got me to even stop thinking about going…
I waited in a trapped in drive through for almost 30 min before i even ordered… its so bad
It’s a shame cause I used to get the shredded chicken burrito all the time for like 2 dollars a pop several years ago, then they discontinued it. They had some other cheap options I liked over the following years but they always discontinue them. Every time I visit Taco Bell I have no idea what I’m going to order cause they’re always taking my favorites off the menu, especially the cheaper stuff.
By far the most expensive fast food. We dont go anymore. 2 combos and an extra taco is $30 in chicago.
The price has gone up, but no way it’s the most expensive fast food, let alone “by far.”
I need to use this as a review for the nearest Jack in the Box to me. Even if nobody else is in line, it takes like half an hour to get anything but a soda.
