Used to be extremely dubious of sushi, especially rolls with roe. I tried a tiny bite of a roll with roe once and was so proud of myself for being brave and then didn’t try it again for years. Then I went with some friends to a buffet place that had sushi and gave it another try with a whole variety of rolls. I had been overthinking it and getting in my own head, and decided to just ask myself “is my mouth happy?” Yes, yes it was very happy, I’m now a total convert and sushi is one of our favorite options for a special night out.

I’m dubious of most sushi. I like the core of it: the rice, the special vinegar concoction, the nori, etc. And there’s quite a few sushi fillings I loved to the point of learning how to make them.

But I will not eat raw flesh. Period. That’s a hard no right there. And roe just has an off-putting texture to me, like kidney has such for me too. Even if it tastes nice, the texture makes my skin crawl in both cases.

But the sushi without the raw flesh? Yeah, that’s yummy!
