The Marines Corps has launched an investigation after the California Highway Patrol said shrapnel from an artillery shell, fired during a live-fire demonstration touted by the White House, struck a law enforcement vehicle.

No injuries were reported when an artillery round “detonated overhead prematurely” during Saturday’s 250th anniversary celebration for the Marines Corps at Camp Pendleton, the highway patrol said.

But at least one of its patrol vehicles, on hand to help stop and divert traffic on Interstate 5 through the base during the demonstration, was damaged, the highway patrol said in a statement Sunday.

I’m pretty sure this administration is going to seriously attack us soon. I guess we are all just waiting for a false flag to drop. I’d really like someone to tell me I’m wrong.

And instead just makes the dictator and the marines look incompetent while shutting down one of the busiest roads in the world for half a day.

Way to look weak and stupid while pissing people off all at once.

The dictator doesnt just look incompetent… lucky for us he really is. If Trump was of average intelligence he would be way more dangerous.

“Gavin Newsom wants people to think this exercise is dangerous,” William Martin, Vance’s communications director, said in a statement to The New York Times.

Vance kept saying it was safe and to not shut the interstate down…

Newsom is taking credit for shutting it down, and wants people to clap.

But even if he’s the one who closed it down, why in the ever loving fuck did he let it happen in the first place?

It’s like a teacher taking credit when a students science fair entry was a real pipe bomb, and the teacher said everyone had to leave the room before the student set it off.

Good idea, it’s better that you did that than nothing.

But why in the ever loving fuck didn’t you stop it from even happening?

      Because federal outranks state…

Newsom has no control over the Marine Corp or US Navy. He does have control over the roads in his state.

        Jesus…

trump appointed SC judges just said not even they can stop trump from doing anything last week…

        And you…

You really think the only way to accomplish shit is thru the legal system?

Just, since when did you think Cali cops are concerned about the legality of their issues?

If an ICE agent has a gun to your head, screaming he’s going to execute you, would you be ok with cops showing, seeing it’s a fed, and then saying:

Welp, feds outrank cops, nothing we can do here…

Or would you want them to arrest the ICE agent with a fucking gun to your head. And then worry about the legal ramifications later when you don’t have a crazy person holding a gun to your head?

Like, come the fuck on, does none of this make the teenyist but if sense to you?

I can assure you that cops can arrest military members…

And that since US military isn’t supposed to act on US soil, yes, cops can go onto a military base to stop them from firing live artillery rounds into civilian populated areas.

But even if it wasn’t ok, you do it to keep your citizens safe, then fight the fallout in courts.

How fucking bad is Civics in highschool these days? I’m getting the feeling from this thread that it hasn’t even existed for a decade.

              1. Cops don’t stand much of a chance against actual US Marines.
              2. Most cops are probably all for this show of force, it’s kinda right up the pigs’ alley. So I doubt they’d be super enthusiastic about arresting those Marines, especially in a circumstance where it’s not super clear what law they’ve broken (I doubt most cops know anything about military law or laws governing the military, since they likely haven’t taken any civics classes since flunking out of high school).
              3. Heaven forbid cops go in there, things get violent, and Trump uses that as an excuse to retaliate or invoke the Insurrection Act. He’s already on a hair trigger, something like that would almost certainly send him and his base over the edge.
              4. They did take action to keep their citizens safe, by closing down the roads near the base and diverting traffic away from potential danger.

Look, I’d love nothing more than for a bunch of bad ass good guys to go in there and slap cuffs on anyone involved in this little “celebration”. Unfortunately we live in reality and not an MCU movie though, so they had to do the next best thing.

Do you think there’s zero risk of shots being fired if a bunch of police show up on a Marine base and start slapping cuffs on soldiers?

That entire hypothetical scenario is basically how it would go down, yes. Cops are not on your side any more than ICE is. Although, recent actions by ICE have certainly pushed more cops off of their side, which is a plus.

How exactly would you suggest he had stopped them?

You’re probably wondering why people are downvoting you, but this is really no different than asking an abused spouse why they didn’t stop their partner from beating them.

How exactly would you suggest he had stopped them?

If the Governor of California wanted to stop the president from shooting live munitions over an open highway, they can dispatch the police, eor even the National Guard…

I’m not wondering why people down voted me.

Oligarchs are spending a shit ton of money to make neoliberals like Newsome and Pritzker sound like the next best presidential candidate.

And unfortunately it’s not just Republican voters that fall for propaganda.

But I assure you, 10 or even 100 random social media accounts down voting me isn’t something I’m concerned about.

        Edit:

asking an abused spouse why they didn’t stop their partner from beating them.

Newsom isn’t being abused, the citizens of America are.

In your analogy, Newsom is the mom that watches her drunk husband beat her kids, but refuses to leave, call the cops, or even just stand between the victims and abuser.

        But this isn’t a family.

Newsom is a politician who won’t protect his constituents. If he resigns that’s an opening for someone willing to fight.

Everyday Newsom is in office, helps trump.

So you expect Newsom to dispatch the California highway patrol to take over an active US Marine base staffed with Marines who have tanks? How do you think that’s going to end? How would you even get enough CHP there to do anything?
