People seem determined to take his comments out of context. He wasn’t implying the show isn’t coming back. But every time the show has previously been off-air there has been a ”current“ Doctor. So Big Finish, novels, the comic strip could all have current Doctor adventures.

But now the Doctor’s regenerates into Billie Piper and we don’t even know if she really is the Doctor. So nobody can write anything until the next episode airs.

I mean you can write about any Doctor, including Ncuti.

Even if we 100% knew Billie Piper was the new Doctor, could you write about her? We wouldn’t know anything about her character. That’s the exact situation we’re in after every regeneration.

I’d think the easiest thing would be to just write it as actually being Rose. In order to do x and switch realities she had to hijack The Doctor’s regeneration. Then you could just write her as Rose.

And that’s a totally reasonable story to write. The Doctor regeneration into a former companion is an interesting story beat. Why this character? Why now? Do they play the character as they were or as the other Doctor saw them? There is a lot you can do with this regeneration.

don’t they have non TV stories going on constantly that are based off whichever doctor the writer likes the most? Be it books, comics or audio adventures?

        Yes. He even mentions that.

Literally all he was saying was that for the first time in 60 years you can’t write anything with the current Doctor, because the end of the last episode leaves it up in the air who that is, or if there even is a “current” Doctor at all.
