The makeup does a lot of heavy lifting. If you’ve ever seen zoomed in closeup shots of their faces, yeah, the age definitely shows.
Also, people that are still active and running around on a stage do still give off youthful vibes. I was shocked when I learned Trent Reznor of NIN is in his 60s now. He still performs like he did in his 20s. Gotta keep moving if you can, never stop. Once you stop moving is when you start dying.
Hell, Reznor is probably in better physical shape than he was in his 20s. I know somewhere around the time he released “With Teeth” he stopped doing drugs and started hitting the gym.

Yes!! I saw NIN this summer and man, he did not stop moving! It was an amazing show. Also my daughters first arena concert, she loved it!
It’s amazing what giving up drugs, trying to be healthy, dyeing your hair and working in a genre where you are expected to look like a grizzled old man will do for the perception of your age.
If you aren’t suffering hair loss, dying your hair is probably the greatest thing you can do to take at least 10 years off instantly if you’re well into a graying head. Gets harder to maintain with short buzzed sections though, especially on the sides.
I’ve been graying since I was like 20 (maybe earlier, maybe later). The only dye I’m going to put in it is either blonde or some other unnatural vibrant colour for fun.
