For reference, this is lower than the opening weekend of Morbius.

That’s… bad

I’m refusing to pay to see it solely because of Jared Leto.

So are many, MANY people I know. They really shot themselves in the foot with that decision.

It wasn’t really a decision, Leto was a major producer on the film. ig that’s the only way he can still get work, by financing the movies himself.

Well, you’re losing a lifetime opportunity to watch probably a movie where the best part is when he says it’s tronning time and he tries to tron all over those guys, but he can’t and then he realizes he has to be more than a Tron, he has to become a symbol, a legend, he has to become an Aries.

For the Aries part: The horoscope suggests focusing on domestic matters and seeking comfort, as the Moon influences your emotional state. It’s a good day for mental clarity, but be cautious of impatience later on.

I feel like I was the “target” for this movie. Tron’s retro futurism/ cyberpunk style has always been interesting. NIN doing the soundtrack! I’ve listened to it at least 5 times already. Jared Leto? Well I’m not a big fan but he was good recently as a detached psychopath villain in Blade Runner 2049. But is that really a compelling lead? Joachim Ronning directing? Uh oh. A Disney journey man just making the same soulless films. Bottom line is I absolutely despise Disney/Marvel/ new Star wars movies. I don’t trust Disney to do anything remotely new, interesting or meaningful. If they do I consider it a fluke now. I’m assuming this will be like 90% modern Disney movies where they worked on “cgi action scenes” 2 years before they wrote the script and everything will feel like it was scenes pasted together for the trailer advertisments without any interest in world building, plot or characters. Just a bunch of over dramatic dialogue to get to the next “cgi action spectical”. No thanks.

I saw it and this is an accurate review. I just zoned out and enjoyed it as an elaborate music video.

I seriously wonder what blackmail Jared Leto’s agent has on producers in Hollywood.

Tron? Yes! NiN soundtrack? Interesting but sure! In present day LA? N… no… With Jared Leto? NO

Took all the cool cyberpunky/futuristic things out of it, and slapped Jared Leto as the poster boy.

Tron Legacy let’s remember what was good about it. Everyone has new 1080p flat screens they wanted to show off, so in the Grid was awesome. Sickass Daft Punk soundtrack. Olivia Wilde was hot as hell. Jeff bridges was, well Jeff bridges and the plot was unremarkable.

It’s like they were like “no need to retrospect, we’ll make it cheap and they’ll love it!”

See you all in a decade when they try rebooting this franchise again!

It’s almost comical at this point how Disney just refuses to learn from their mistakes.

Tron Legacy is one of my favorite movies of all time, an endless comfort watch. I saw it twice in theaters and easily 100+ times since then. I was so excited for a new Tron movie and then Jared fucking Leto and I dropped it off my watch list entirely. I’ll pirate it at some point, I don’t know how much I’ll be able to enjoy it. Fuck Jared Leto and fuck everyone that thought yeah putting this guy in our multi hundred million dollar project is a great idea.

How is the Tron Legacy soundtrack? Cause I haven’t seen this one yet, I don’t think there are anything but cam screen recordings right now.

Okay yeah the soundtrack is a lot of why I like Tron Legacy. It’s an absolute masterpiece, most of it is my favorite music Daft Punk ever made. When the soundtrack kicks in shortly into the opening as Flynn is driving his motorcycle through traffic on the highway sent shivers down my spine the first time I ever saw it and still does 15 years later now.

The 180 million USD budget is the relevant context here. Morbius was considered to be doing well until its 2nd week but it only cost 75-82 million (production budget only of course)

Most likely this will be a much bigger flop than that

I’m a pretty big Tron fan, since I was a kid. But this movie kinda feels like it’s just wearing the corpse of Tron around. Legacy was cool, no idea why they wouldn’t just continue with that story. And going from Daft Punk to NiN is not winning me over in the slightest, never been into NiN. This doesn’t feel like it was made for current fans, and it doesn’t feel like it was made to attract new ones either. I haven’t seen it yet, highly doubt I will see this one in theaters.

Yeah the original Tron was filled with a sense of wonder and spirit, I suppose it was a different time and all that tech was shiny (or rather grey) and new and not being used to oppress people quite yet at least on a massive scale, but it seems like they just went so cliche cyberpunk with it. I’ve been a fan of NIN since Pretty Hate Machine but tbh their soundtrack work sounds all pretty dark and foreboding and samey.

It was… Not good. Soundtrack was a banger though. Literally the only positive thing I have to say about the movie.

Yeah, I don’t think superhero movies will do good for a while.

The current climate of the world is in people realizing that superheros and hope doesn’t exist and good guys don’t win. So when you see another superhero movie where the good guys win … it rubs you the wrong way when you know that this isn’t the reality in the real world.

I saw it yesterday at a morning IMAX showing. Jared Leto is gross to me, and he’s in this movie a lot—roughly equal time to the other lead, Greta Lee (who did a good job).

That said, Leto plays a very low-key role throughout, which somehow made it easier, like a lower dosage. I was able to sit through his performance. Hasan Minaj was also randomly in this in a supporting dramatic role.

The harder thing for me was the constant work of suspension of disbelief required for this movie. The trailer had done nothing for me and I straight up didn’t like the idea of “Tron in the real world,” despite the ending of Legacy.

I found the entire thing incredibly silly, which kept me at an emotional distance from the movie, but there was an extended sequence in act 2 that I actually did quite like. The story was a bit too simple: there wasn’t even really much of a B-plot until partway through act 2. There were some non-crucial plot holes, so just don’t think about anything too hard.

Basically, the visuals were great, the soundtrack was good/fine, and the story was silly but serviceable. This will be no one’s favorite Tron movie, but it’s watchable.

It’s weird they keep trying to give Jared Leto a chance when every comment ever written ought to let them know no one wants him to get another chance.
