I tend to favour slow-burn paranoia-driven movies, so things like Alien or The Thing if you’re leaning in the sci-fi direction; or things like The Silence of the Lambs, or M for psychological horror; or Nosferatu or the 1963 version of The Haunting for supernatural horror.
But I think of these, the 1979 German version of Nosferatu is at the top.
Personally I watched Alien, then Aliens, then stopped. Alien was a slow-burn haunted house in space. Aliens was action horror which isn’t really my vibe. The rest of the franchise seemed to stick with the action horror vibe so I never really followed-up after that.

I get that. Alien 3 is definitely worth a watch, it’s slower and not particularly action.
