i never watched many growing up cause my mom would freak out about the devil and such. however my gf is a big horror fan, her family watches silence of the lambs ever Easter for some reason. they put out a projector in the backyard and everything.

Great pick, this is also my favorite! It doesn’t matter how many times I watch that movie, the scene where he first comes across the infected in the church is so fucking creepy to me. How fast they stand up and look at him when he calls out gives me nightmares everytime, I love it!
I know they move like lightning! There’s his bewilderment when he sees the vicar as well.

I tend to favour slow-burn paranoia-driven movies, so things like Alien or The Thing if you’re leaning in the sci-fi direction; or things like The Silence of the Lambs, or M for psychological horror; or Nosferatu or the 1963 version of The Haunting for supernatural horror.
But I think of these, the 1979 German version of Nosferatu is at the top.

I love the Alien films! The original trilogy are some of my all time favourite films. Have you seen the tv show?

Personally I watched Alien, then Aliens, then stopped. Alien was a slow-burn haunted house in space. Aliens was action horror which isn’t really my vibe. The rest of the franchise seemed to stick with the action horror vibe so I never really followed-up after that.
I get that. Alien 3 is definitely worth a watch, it’s slower and not particularly action.
Does the 1999 The Mummy count?
Otherwise I really enjoyed Get Out.

I like Fright Night. I’ve watched the original and the remake and like different things about each. The newer one is my favorite of the two.

The original “Halloween” film scared me pretty good when I was a teen. And the theme music is an eerie banger! I loved playing that over and over on the piano back in the day haha…
Actually speaking of scary movie soundtracks, if you enjoy music please do yourself a favor and listen to the entirety of Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells. It gets so wild and amazing after the section they used for the Exorcist theme! One of my favorite albums ever.
Which one? I’ve got … like … four Tubular Bells albums (Tubular Bells, Tubular Bells II, Tubular Bells III, Tubular Bells 2003) on my phone right now and there’s at least two more (Millennial Bells? Orchestral Bells?) that I have on my home computer. 🤣

Maybe you needed to grow up with CRT TVs and VCRs to feel the fear in your bones. Idk if anyone under 20 would be able to get into it.
I’m in the weird group that preferred the Hollywood remake of that to the Japanese original.
The original had a stronger atmosphere, I’ll give it those props. But the story was a mess to the point that the writers, having written themselves into a corner, just randomly made a character psychic to move the story forward: no hint of this before that point, and it never really came up again afterwards. There were a few other things like that which just grated on my nerve.
The Hollywood version didn’t have the same atmosphere (but was still pretty intense) and for that had a more coherent story that didn’t just drop weird stuff like “whoopsie, psychic!” into the mix.
