Well yes, linux phones are great

But its kinda the same as opting out of Gservices, you gotta find a new Linux native app for everything for it to work smoothly

Which, for once is great since libadwaita and qt has great scalability, so most linux apps already look great on Linux mobile

But if you depend on Android native apps, you cant really expect more from Waydroid as you do from wine

in other words: No IGN, you cant just boot into a linux phone and complain that you cant download Instagram from the Play store

Yeah, I’m very interested in those devices but they don’t seem to live up to most users’ expectations? But since there’s still time maybe there will be Linux phones that may suit as a daily driver.

When I want to do any transactions on my bank account, I need to verify it with my bank’s 2FA app.

That app doesn’t work on waydroid (I tried) and needs a “certified” device.

Huh. I’ve never heard of that. I’m in the US, and I only need 2FA to log into the website and then I can do whatever I want. By 2FA, I mean, a standard RSA authenticator app, or just a text message with a code.

It’s not their own solution, but SecureGo - AFAIK a common third-party 2FA app in Europe

                Switch banks.

                I don’t like your… encroaching tone.

Also: no available bank here supports common FOSS 2FA solutions. All use SecureGo, or something similar.

In Sweden BankID is your login to a lot of services, especially local community ones, the tax office and so on.

Since this is going to be enforced through Google Services custom ROMs like GrapheneOS will not be affected. Of course if F-Droid no longer exists, that means we lose the largest centralized repository of open source apps which is a huge blow. There are other ways of installing and updating open source apps like Obtainium. But the big thing with F-Droid is that it also provides discoverability.

i’d imagine google can’t magically enforce this for old versions of android or custom roms, so just keep using that like 90% of us already do…
