Pay. announces today having successfully completed its first Wero transaction with a test merchant.
In the end of 2025, Wero will be available via Pay. in Germany, followed by Belgium in H1 2026. The rollout in the Netherlands will start beginning of H2 2026, in line with iDEAL’s migration to Wero.
I thought the point of Wero was that we wouldn’t need any additional companies in the middle.
Essentially, the additional company is the EPI in which your bank is part of anyway if it’s implementing Wero. So it’s not really a 3rd party like PayPal, VISA or MasterCard.
I guess in this case Pay.nl acts as a kind of middle man to boost adoption. This way, shops enrolled with their solution just need to do nothing to adopt Wero instead of doing a full implementation. Anything that helps is a good thing, I guess?
It’s more a merger of a bunch of previously existing systems, which all only covered national markets . Paynl supported iDEAL and giropay previously, which will be replaced by Wero.
+ extesions probably. Dunno if any of them supported to digitally directly send money to different account
If it doesn’t work offline I don’t like it.
How would you do digital payment offline?
But EPI might want to add a payment card later.
I don’t know, with whatever they plan to do it with the digital euro since it seems to be one of the requirements.
If this thing depends on a bank app it means that having a Google or Apple account is a requirement.
Wero is something different than the Digital Euro.
Take a look at the EPI site. They have got a transparent agenda.
